Blue Jackets to make the playoffs this season or not

If you had to guess at this point in time will the Blue Jackets make the playoffs or not?

First, this is really hard to predict right now, and I make no guarantees.

But right now...yes. If they can keep improving and people get healthy, I think we will.

IF we play in February and March like we usually do, then yes. The good news is I don't think we're going to be out of it by then.

Yes...

...if we stay healthy
...if we stay on Hitch's plan
...especially if someone becomes a #1 center (or we go get one)
...if the moon and the stars align properly

Bottom line is we need a lot of things to go our way and we have to keep working hard.

The team plays their best later in the year like you say. So if they can even stay around where they are now they would have a great shot. Past years they were not close enough to have any chance by then. Of course preferably they would be in an even better position then they are now.

I am not discouraged by their recent slump yet. A season is long and even the best teams have a down stretch or two most of the time. If it lasts much longer I will be more worried.

Nash has to stay healthy and we have to work hard every night.

Once again I have to say the East is sooooo much weaker. We'd be a top 3 team in the whole conference. We'd have made the playoffs 3-4 already if we played in it.

I think everyone so far has hit on the issue: stay healthy.
We do not yet have the depth to literally limp into the playoffs.

I would have liked to have had the poll ask how 'strong' our prediction is.
I'd say 60-40 we will "just miss" the playoffs.

I can't vote but if I could I'd vote yes. I see no possible senario except an injury to Nash that could keep this team from at least squeaking into the 8th place.

I did not vote on hope....I voted on Hitchcocks history and what I saw when Peca was in the lineup...., I voted yes.

Currently we are in a horrible slump but based on what I've seen this roster can do if motivated we should make the 8th seed with one cavet.... Howson gets some balls and makes a move for some help offensively.....

We have the core, but we need one talented forward to ensure the playoffs...

If we don't make it, the blame will fall squarely on Howson.... The ball is in his court now! It's that simple.

They're close, but no pie this time. Next season probably though.

As Magic 8 Ball used to say "Ask again later."

In all seriousness, we could finish anywhere from 4th in the conference to 12th in the conference as things stand. If Modin or Peca have another injury set back, I don't see us making the playoffs.

They need to step up the pace a bit in terms of W's and point production, but they can do it for sure.

22 points in 20 games isn't on pace for the 96 or so that is going to be required, but they can step it up.

The home stand in December is a HUGE opportunity for them to really gain some points and surge ahead of the pace.

assuming when we get Peca and Modin healthy again then i think we'll definitely be in. i think we'll be one of the lower seeds though

No way the Blue Jackets aren't in the top 8 in the confrence this year. This team is just too good to not make the playoffs this year. If we stay healthy on the forward side all year we will be in the playoffs no doubt in my mind. This team has played like a playoff team every game but 4 give or take 1 game.

I think think it comes down to the final game of the season and...we just miss out, finishing 9th.

I think the parity after 1/4 of the season is pretty amazing. Only 3 points separate the 2nd team and 11th team in the western conference right now. Of those, St. Louis has only played 18 games, Anaheim and SJ have 21 games in, and the rest are at 20 games.

Besides staying healthy and trying to steal extra points here and there, the CBJ need to use the upcoming December home stand to their advantage. The CBJ have 13 out of their next 19 games at home. I think they need a minimum of 24 points in that stretch and ideally 26+. That's going something like 9-3-1 at home and 2-3-1 on the road. If they don't get these points at home when they have the chance, then they're going to be stuck making them up on the road in January and February.

It also helps that the CBJ only have two "Back-to-Back" games during that stretch, one is this weekend (Minn/Det) and the other is Dec. 26th/27th.

Trying to project that out those points is another thing. You could easily find at least 7 trouble games for the CBJ: @MINN, DET, COL (Dec 5), COL(Dec12), Nash(Dec 23), @NASH(Dec 27), Carolina. Not saying other teams are easy, but the CBJ have been whipped on by COL, DET and NAS. They need to find a way to win at least 2 or 3 of those games and get OT points off those teams to make up for points likely lost on the Western Canada trip and other games during that stretch.

Right now no, just realizing that needing 100 points, it will be difficult. We will be in the race to the end. December could be a different story.

i'm in the opinion of if we can just keep up right now with the 4th to 9th in the playoff picture then we will make it, because if history is with us then the jackets always play better in the latter part of the season. so i think we get in around the 6th seed. the central is tough. we will pounce on teams in the playoffs with our aggresive play(if we stay out of the 8th seed). don't want detroit in the first round. bring on anybody else.

I said no. I think the team won't be 100% healthy 100% of the time (just like now) and I see them taking too many nights off when they shouldn't be. Don't get me wrong, the team is 100% better than last year in terms of effort, but everyone knows that there is little chance Modin and Peca and Westcott and whomever else won't stay healthly for the rest of the year. I'll stand by my prediction that says they will be around .500 when the dust settles, and Federov and/or Foote will be gone at the trade deadline. With all that new cap room, two very good free agents will be signed over the summer and next year is the year they make it.

All that being said, I'd like to be wrong and they make the playoffs, of course...

We are holding our own without a healthy Peca &

Modin..

Gotten solid play out of Glencross, Boll, Novotny & Russell

Good play out of Federov, Foote and the Choo Choo Manny Danny line

and exceptional play from Nic, Rick Jan, Rusty & Pazzy

If we can get Brule kickin it and a healthy Peca & Modin.. I think we come in 5th or 6th.

We have to start beating Detroit & Nashville for any of this to matter.

The one thing that was encouraging in the shootout loss to Detroy-it is that as they increased the tempo and the tape to tape controlling passing, we countered.. stood them up on the blue line and counter attacked. We had some excellent scoring opportunities and some very unselfish play. Add the physical style of play that we are bringing to the game and the Blue Jackets have become that tough team to play against that "Captn Hitch" has been talkin bout.

So yeah, I think we get in as long as we play every game like there is no tomorrow.. we have no room for the holiday lull.

Sadly ...

I think the lack of depth does us in over the long haul.

But I think they'll be playing meaningfull games well into the Spring, and by then, watch the bandwagon fans start filling Nationwide on a regular basis!
