EDM doesn't have enough 2nd rounders to get the deal done

Before Bieksa got hurt, that's the type of deal I would have been looking for in exchange for Semin.

actually kind of agree with Shawon, but not Scheider. Need to add a first and someone else in place of that BC goalie as I'm not up to speed on Van's prospects.

top pairing??? You have to ask yourself how sure you are of that 'top pairing'. While good, he doesn't have the history and longevity to claim that title. And while admit neither does Semin. But those are my terms from where I see this team, and why I have fault with the premise of this issue.

edit: as I said I don't follow your guys so I can't name a tit for tat prospect. I just know I don't value Schneider

well us canucks fans do..

i still can't see why a Bieksa + 2nd for Semin trade wouldn't work...

That's great for you all. Then you should be happy keeping him and be upset with the thoughts of losing him

I was talking about Bieska. Agreed that Nuks fans are all too keen to trade Schnieder due to Roberto

the thing with Bieksa if he was to stay with the nucks next year

Mitchell -3.5 NTC
Ohlund - 3.5 NTC
Salo -3.5 NTC
Bieksa 3.75
Krajichek 1.1
Bourdon 1.3

As you see that's a lot of money tied up in defence. Bieksa is the only top 4 defenceman that does not have a NTC. That's why he is often included in proposal. You can talk to any canuck fan and they'll tell you that they would only trade Bieksa for a premier offensive talent, nobody wants to lose his grit leadership and his great two way game.

If Salo would waive his NTC i along with many nuck fans would rather trade him than Bieksa

Dammit - Semin left practice with an ankle problem again (per Vogel).

A deal with Vancouver is very plausible. Vancouver has a number of assets that packaged together would make a good deal for Washington and the Canucks need some offensive firepower. Also remember that George McPhee used to work with the Canucks and remains friendly with the organization.

Corey Schneider is mentioned above and he is a top prospect that would be ready to fill in once Kolzig retires. The Canucks have several young defenceman to pair with him in a deal but Lucas Kraijeck probably makes the most sense as he is young and could step in right away. The Canucks would probably have to add a third player like a Matt Cooke or other tough forward - perhaps a Rick Rypien or Jannick Hansen.

Caps would get a defensive forward, a good young defenceman and a first class goaltending prospect. That would be a good package for Semin.

We don't need defensive forwards. We're already dumping them off for second round picks as we speak

If he blames the ankle, then I think Semin is just making excuses. That ankle was declared 100% a few days ago.

While I'm sure we all appreciate the effort... you just highlighed things that the Caps are in excess of.

This is what I love about trade offers in the base case, typically fans post offers that sound great in a vacuum and possibly good in value, but typically unrealistic due to the needs of the other club.

1. The Caps problem is goal scoring.
1a. How does trading Semin add goal scoring?
1b. How does your package of defensive assets add goal scoring?

2. The Caps have the youngest defense in the NHL.
2a. The Caps drafted a defenseman in the top 5 of the first round last season and have several other top 2 round draft picks working thru the system at present. Why do they need another young defenseman?
2b. The Caps have young defenseman Steve Eminger as a scratch.

3. The Caps have two very highly regarded goaltenders in their system. Why would they want a third one? There is only one starting job in Washington and one in Hershey.

Answer those questions and we can talk about your trade idea further.

no it wasn't. It was declared "good enough for him to play" which is far from 100%. Ankle problems are the recurring type of injuries, especially when you have to ice skate.

Nope.

Barring a setback, Semin is going to play tomorrow against Florida, according to Coach Hanlon, who said that he's 100-percent recovered.

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/capitalsinsider/

He's not going to say it's 100% unless Semin and the team doctor agree.

Come on... haven't you learned that we couldn't trust anything Hanlon said.
