GDT: 11/24/07. Carolina Hurricanes at Washington Capitals. Verizon Center. 7p.m.

Game Day Thread: Carolina Hurricanes at Washington Capitals
Verizon Center
7p.m.

TV: CSN
Radio: 3WT 1500 AM

Carolina Hurricanes: 13-7-3, 29 points
6-3-2 on the road
1st in the Southeast Division, 2nd in the Eastern Conference

Washington Capitals: 7-14-1, 15 points
2-7-0 at home
5th in the Southeast Division, 15th in the Eastern Conference

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

The Caps look for back-to-back wins for the first time since their 3-0 start to the season. The Caps will also be looking for their first home win in exactly a month. Since their 5-3 win over Tampa Bay, Washington has dropped five straight at home and have been outscored 20-10. Tonight's game is the first of three at home, with Buffalo coming up on Monday (airing on VS) and Florida on Wednesday.

The key to yesterday's win: consistency, puck pursuit and poise with the puck.

"[Coming] out of out zone we made sure we didn't turn it over and [going] into their zone we made sure we didn't turn it over. I think that was the biggest difference..." - defenseman Mike Green

"We just have to keep working hard." - defenseman Milan Jurcina

"We just have to keep it simple." - defenseman Shaone Morrisonn

PreCap will air at 3p.m.

Huge game IMO. They've pulled out a win here and there and it hasn't been enough to break out of the funk. A second win in a row and maybe just maybe they can put their fragile mind-set behind them - maybe get on a bit of roll while there at it.

They call hime Bruce;

5-3 Caps.

Nice Oilers avatar.

All the other team's posters have avatars related to their team. I don't think I've seen a single Capitals avatar sported by any of the posters on this board. Lame.

You haven't been around long enough. Avatars come and go, my friend. There was a period where all the caps fans had caps avatars, and then they decided they wanted something different.

its life

Backstrom on the fourth line? Please tell me that's a mistake.

Way to integrate with your fellow fans. Guess the goal is to destroy the Capitals from within tonight.

Good game tonight, guys.

edit: K, mistake #2 in my GDT.....Backstrom is going to be on the 4th line? Brutal, my ability of clairvoyance seems to be fading.

Gabby thought that the 4th line of Brash-Backs-Brads was the best line for the caps last night. Makes sense to do it again, I guess.

This is going to be a tough game tonight. At least both teams played last night. Should even things up. Is ward starting for the Canes?

I like Bruce's rationale to put Backstrom on the 4th line. And the success last night was the kicker to believe. BBB each get a goal and the caps win 5-3.

ok...look a little closer.

Nova Scotia Oilers. In honour of one Mr. Bruce Boudreau who captained that long defunct team, as well as leading the AHL in scoring, in my home town of Halifax many moons ago while I was playing hockey as a kid. He was something of idol to me at the time, and I also worked at the Halifax Metro Centre selling concessions for a time that spanned the defunct NS Oliers and the also defunct Halifax Citadels (Quebec Nord's farm team).

Anyway, I had a chance to meet Boudreau as a wide eyed kid during those days and even skated with Boudreau and Dean Hopkins at a little mini-camp.

So yeah...it very much has to do with the Capitals (Bruce Boudreau) so you can go s#*# it.

I like the idea of using Kolzig more often - Johnson has not impressed me. I hope Bruce does not use a fixed rotation - it takes away from riding a hot goalie etc.

3-2 Canes in OT.

The Caps will play with heart, but it will take a little longer for the offense to gel under BB. If it does at all. Which I hope it does.

Can't cover Green and Ovechkin at the same time with that system. The backside defenseman cheats up to take away OV. That opens up the backdoors for Green.
