He also didn't say a ton of nice things about the town of Binghamton after he left. He deserved to be boo'ed. That is precisely the type of behaviour that ought to be booed.

He only said it was a small town, as compared to San Antonio, which it is.

Ah Nikulin, what a bum! I don't see him ever really amounting to anything and he's got himself to blame for that cause I think most people would say he affected his own development. Nice to see him doing absolutely nothing in the AHL.

I'm not going to throw him under the bus.

Sure, he didn't amount to anything, and he may have a bit of an inflated opinion of himself given his apparent work ethic to make the big leagues, but I didn't find anything he said too bad.

Sometimes you feel you have to go somewhere else to get your career going.

I still wish him the best, but I'm not optimistic.

Strange that Nikulin hasn't blogged about being called up (albeit for just a game). I would've thought he'd write something about that experience. Maybe soon... if anyone's still interested, that is.

If anyone's interested, Nikulin went back to Russia, to his old team. There is a new blog entry posted today. Shall I translate just to have the complete set?

He left the Yotes for the KHL recently. Or I just heard that anyway, not sure how recent it actually was.

National Hockey League (NHL) - "My contract ended and I decided to return back home. I don't want to sign a two-way contract and most likely they wouldn't offer me a one-way deal" - these the words of Alexander Nikulin (Phoenix Coyotes) after he signed a deal with CSKA Moscow. The young center played two seasons in America, mostly in the AHL farm teams of the Ottawa Senators and the Phoenix Coyotes. He did play in the NHL, but just three matches, without scoring a single point.

Iím with the CSKA.
May 20, 2009.

Thanks to everybody who read my blog these last two years. Basically, I didnít manage to conquer the NHL, but I donít feel Iíve wasted that time. Iíve had a good experience, drew some conclusions, and understood what North America is about. And despite it being so brief, I did play for the Ottawa Senators and the Phoenix Coyotes.

But now it was time to return to Russia. I donít think I started playing worse during these two years. Quite the opposite, I believe Iíve raised my level. Even playing in the AHL was a good learning experience. Iíve learned how to prepare for games, how to prepare for a season. Improved my English, obviously. A lot more pros than cons. Iím not giving up on making the NHL, but I wonít go to the AHL anymore, of course.

Iíve accepted CSKAís offer and am very anxiously awaiting the start of the season. The previous season turned out jumbled, I played very little, and so I have tons of energy. Iíll definitely help out the CSKA. Iím glad to be back with my original team. Sure the coaching and the managing staff is all new, but I think the CSKA traditions will remain. It would be very cool if I could play with my old partners Denis Parshin and Sergei Shirokov.

I kept an eye on the comments you wrote. Most people supported me and those words meant a lot. You were asking me to return, so Iíve returned. Iíll think about how to continue contributing to the site this coming season. I would very much like this blog to go on, though now I would be telling you about the KHL. Iím sure you would enjoy the new format.

And Iíll be looking for you at CSKAís games this season. The team hasnít won any trophies yet, so Iím hoping to break from that tradition. See you later this summer. The team will be getting together mid-July, but Iíll start preparing much earlier. I really want to be in ideal condition for the first games, making the fans happy.

Best of luck to him in Russia. It's too bad it didn't work out, but hopefully he has a solid career back with CSKA. Huge thanks to Thirtyfive for all his work too. I almost wanted him to succeed so you would get the credit you deserve alone.

It's attitudes like that that allow teams like NYR to get players like Grachev in the third round. We haven't had a forward prospect of Grachev's calibre in the system since Spezza.
