Agreed but he said the TEAM is stupid. Why not say those acts were stupid? There is a large difference. The Flyers have done impressive work this season that has nothing to do with specific plays of an egregious nature.

It also doesn't mean that all of the good that this team does should be lumped in with 4 stupid plays, nor should the fanbase be labelled as blood-sucking lunatics for wanting the game to still be played physical.

He does in-studio work for Versus and played a few years in the NHL from the late 1970s into the 80s. He was on Montreal's Cup winners in 1978 and 1978, IIRC.

But using the word stupidest in your line at describing how stupid a team is...does.

Andy Sutton hit Kukkonen directly in the head on purpose. He's a repeat offender and the league did nothing. Sutton has done more bush league **** than Hartnell, Jones and Downie combined. I don't include Boulerice in that group because I'll be embarassed to ever lace them up for this team again.

ps. The league suspends on RESULT not INTENT. That's asinine.

Hey, Professor Engblom, can you help me find the smart team here?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30JFIVKuJ7Q

Or here?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYuIigp9J-M

Or here?

http://youtube.com/watch?v=GWA9OclF_mE

How about here?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmR__p7lvqk

It's just a small sampling of "smart" teams and their on ice actions this season, but I'm having trouble understanding the definition of "stupidest". Is it the action that makes them "stupidest" or the punishment? Maybe it's the "stupidest" to not be aware of what is going on around the league when that is, well, your feckin' job to know.

Well, it doesn't mean that they aren't idiots either. Let's find whatever reason to crucify Flyers just because we hate them so much. It is what it is. Injuries happen. It's contact sport. You do whatever you can to protect yourself and avoid putting yourself into vulnerable position.

This statement is funny because Brian eggnog is a nobody and his opinion doesn't matter.

bingo. when you lump the entire team in with a few bad plays that is ignorant and you should expect to be called on it.

The only thing that Engblom said that was enlightening was that he feels that since the Flyers were such pushovers, (they were basically until the Flyers got Upshall), that the team and the coaches feel the onus is on the players that they won't be this year, and they try to hard to do it, and that's why we get questionable hits.

That doesn't make them a dumb team though. At least they can't be too dumb, they're at the top of the division.

You know he would ahve said the exact opposite if Alberts kept the puck in and Hartnell just stood the and let him do it and then it led to a goal.

Excluding Boulerice, who is a waste of ice time, what's the average age of the players suspended? I think Hartnell is 24, Downie is 20, and Jones is 26. Jones has under 100 games played in the NHL. These aren't longtime NHLers. Young inexperienced players are going to make bad decisions sometimes. Living with these type of dumb plays is a fact of life as this team matures.

aside from hartnell's hit you see other teams do the same hits in almost every other game...the big difference has been the result of the flyers hits...

tootoo & armstrong have delivered hits like downey

parker had a similar hit on dion as boulerice did on kessler

jones' hit happens frequently but the players are lucky enough not to get injured like begeron...volchenkov and someone from the canucks delivered similar hits this season off the top off my head...

hartnell's was a new one for me

so, while these hits may be dumb or not it's not like the flyer's players are the only ones delivering them...

the flyers players just hit harder
