The Canes forwards definitely look scary. But the D shouldn't frighten anyone. And their pk percentage has been horrible recently.

I also don't like the caps second line. Very young, and while NB is defensively responsible, the other two guys aren't at all. It could be a bad night for them. Then again, if semin doesn't leave in the first period it might be a nice night for NB.

If we keep carolina's scoring down we should be ok. I'll be surprised if we don't put up a decent number of goals tonight.

Here's hoping for a win.

Nylander a -3, but Ovechkin a +1

I know, but Ovechkin will find a way to do it. I'm so used to Ovechkin scoring every night.

5-3 Caps. Backstrom and the second line with a surprising night.

On that note, Flash is getting another chance to prove himself - everytime he seems to be out of the picture an injury vaults him back in there. Last time he sat out he returned with his best performance of the season, hope to see that again. Mind you -I know some thought he blew chunks his last game but I personally don't think anyone short of Ovechkin could have looked good with the way his linemates were playing (Semin/Nylander). Not that he played well, but he was the least of the problems with that line.

Caps really need Semin to shake off the rust for this game.

Also looking forward to the Steckel rematch against Rod in the faceoff circle. Steckel has had two very good games against the Canes but still got absolutely schooled in the faceoff circle both times. He's the Caps 'guy' on the draws and must have had his pride wounded the way Rod embarassed him on the dot.

I really don't think you have a lot to worry about there. What are the chances that Fleischmann plays very long without being benched and/or Semin without getting hurt? Laich will be skating that line by the 2nd period.

I can't see Backstrom having a big night anyway other than on the power play. Carolina has some serious PK issues and that could happen. It could.

But Fleischmann and Semin are not going to bring Backstrom riches. Not yet at least.
I see no reason to think Flieschmann is ready to do something with his "another chance". Semin needs to get his game legs/leg under him before there is an explosion there. IT can't come soon enough, but I see tonight as a power play scoring chance and a low scoring game...if the Caps are to win. GO OLIE

Who knows. Semin has had a couple of games to get some of the rusty pains out of the way, though he obviously hasn't shown much to believe he's getting back on track. Backstrom IMO (even 5-on-5) has been among the best 2-3 forwards for the past couple of games. IF Semin can find some of his timing and get his legs tonight I think there is the potential there for a dangerous line the way Backstrom has been coming around. Regardless of how poorly Semin has played he hasn't had much help from a centre (Nylander for whatever reason has been the anti-chemistry with everyone 5-on-5 thus far) who can find him either and Backstrom will be a defensive upgrade for that line as well. Flash is the wild card, he's got to be more involved at both ends of the rink the way he was for a short spurt after his last scratch.

Nylander better not be playing pond hockey again tonight. I always feel bad for a guy tagged with having the worst +/- in the league but in this case he's pretty much got himself and no one else to blame for it.
