[GDT 25:] 12/01/07 Dallas Stars @ Philadelphia Flyers 7:00 pm (TV: CSN)

Preview from NHL.com:
http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?service=p...008&gameType=2

2007-08 Team Records:
1st place Philadelphia 14-8-2 30 points (6-2-2 at home)
1st place Dallas 13-9-4 30 points (6-6-2 away)

Dallas is playing their fifth game in seven nights and their sixth in the last nine.
Dallas has lost their last two games after winning the previous six.

Possible Flyers' Lines:
Kapanen-Briere-Lupul
Umberger-Richards-Knuble
Upshall-Carter-Tolpeko
Eager-Dowd-Cote

Philadelphia's Defense:
Kukkonen-Hatcher
Timonen-Jones
Coburn-Smith

http://www.courierpostonline.com/news/sports/index.html
Loose pucks: LW Scott Hartnell will serve the second half of his two-game suspension tonight. RW Sami Kapanen will take his spot on a top line with C Danny Briere and LW Joffrey Lupul. The other forward lines are: C Mike Richards between LW R.J. Umberger and RW Mike Knuble; C Jeff Carter with LW Scottie Upshall and RW Denis Tolpeko; and C Jim Dowd with LW Ben Eager and RW Riley Cote. The defense pairings are now Lasse Kukkonen with Derian Hatcher; Braydon Coburn with Jason Smith; and Randy Jones with Kimmo Timonen. . . . RW Steve Downie has completed his 20-game suspension, but will remain with the Phantoms until his play improves and/or the Flyers have an injured winger. According to GM Paul Holmgren, Downie started off strong with the Phantoms, but his play tailed off in recent weeks. In 10 games he has one goal, 10 assists, 26 penalty minutes and is a plus-6. "He's involved offensively and he's involved physically," Stevens said. "He needs to work on his skating, but he's a guy you root for." . .

Possible Goalie Matchup:
Marty Biron vs. Marty Turco

Possible Dallas Lines:
Niklas Hagman, Jussi Jokinen, Antti Miettinen
Brenden Morrow, Mike Ribeiro, Loui Eriksson,
Chris Conner, Mike Modano, Jeff Halpern
Steve Ott, Stu Barnes, Joel Lundqvist/Krys Barch

Miettinen did not play last night but could tonight. That would result in someone from last night's roster being removed.

Dallas' Defense:
Sergei Zubov - Matt Niskanen
Trevor Daley - Philippe Boucher
Stephane Robidas - Niklas Grossman

Injuries: http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont...w.2b9ef7a.html

Dallas: RW Antti Miettinen (groin) is probable. D Mattias Norstrom (facial laceration) and RW Jere Lehtinen (abdominal strain) are out.

Philadelphia: RW Jesse Boulerice (suspension), RW Scott Hartnell (suspension), C Simon Gagne (concussion), and D Mike Rathje (groin) (edited to correct the listing of Timonen in the link above).

Series History against Dallas:
  • The Flyers are 3-6-9 (nine ties) since the Stars relocated to Dallas.
  • Of the 18 games, 13 have been decided by one goal or less.
  • In the last 13 games, the Flyers are 1-4-8 (8 ties).
  • In Philadelphia, the Flyers are 2-1-6 (6 ties) all-time against Dallas.

Next Five Flyers' Games:
Wed December 5 at Minnesota 8:00 PM (ET)
Fri December 7 at Colorado 9:00 PM (ET)
Tue December 11 vs. Pittsburgh 7:00 PM (ET)
Thu December 13 vs. Montreal 7:00 PM (ET)
Sat December 15 vs. Carolina 7:00 PM (ET)

you have Jussi Jokinen twice for the stars.

And on a side note why oh why coach Stevens is Upshall palying 3rd line minutes while Umberger and Kapenan are first and second liners?

These are just guesses id say. Umberger has been great, but id rather see upshall in kapanens spot.

Upshall - Carter - Tolpeko

Nice.

But, 1st line Kappy? That will work out about as well as a **** sandwich... at least he can keep up with Briere.

This is a game the Flyers should be able to control. The Stars are worn down, they've been on the road for a while, Marty Turco isn't playing well. There is no excuse tonight. Not only in winning the game, but winning it in hand.

I'd love to see stevens give that a shot. Briere would respond to his energy I think, use it to get that stickhandling flow going where he moves it around the ice always a step ahead of the other team.

The part in bold is the only part I hope you are wrong about.

The puck line is giving Dallas +1.5 tonight. When I first looked at the matchup I initially was going to put my $10 on the Flyers. But then I saw that DAL was +1.5 and PHL was -1.5 so I had to go with DAL. As long as the Flyers win by only 1 I'll be happy.

And no empty netters god damnit!
