I read that quote earlier this week, sans the part about implementing the system, but what do you expect? "That thing we've been drilling into your heads for the last several years, well now do this tonight."

It's not something you can do easily when you can't get practice on consecutive days.

exactly, i was just posting it to reinforce it... some posters seemed leary about Boudreau's "system" looking at the results of the last 3 games.

It seems to me all that he's implemented so far is the PP, which we've seen the results of right away.

Early in the period, Pothier jumped up into the offensive zone in order to keep the puck in. That's something new in Boudreau's system, I'd guess. Previously, Pothier would have given up the line and gotten back on d.

Interesting to hear Denny Potvin say he was surprised that the Caps are outshooting the Panthers in the first period...considering that is how almost all Caps games go.

The key has been what happens after that.

Just shows Potvin doesn't know what he's talking about, like usual.

Not so sure...I've seen Pothier make many risky pinches to keep the puck in, many of which were ill-advised.

This game is pretty boring. Both teams clogging up the middle.

yet somehow the caps have 23 shots and 1 goal to show.. if this team actually scored goals they could be a 6th place team.

23 shots and 1 goal means things still haven't changed. If they score close to how they control the play, they are in the top 8 in the conference.

Vogel had the Caps 8th in the NHL in shots on goal. Last or near in goals scored and in last place. Those things dont jive.

Exactly what I was thinking....."typical Semin". Outworked along the boards and takes a lazy hooking penalty.

Ovechkin makes a clean hit and gets penalized. Thank God for the new NHL. I thought you were allowed to hit someone who is trying to steal the puck from you....?

Sure they do. It just means that they both fail to capitalize sufficiently on their chances and that a large amount of their shots aren't quality scoring opportunities. If you were factor in missed and blocked shots, the Caps probably have the most shots attempted in the entire league. But their offensive pressure is often in a very raw or unstructured form.

Boudreau needs to hammer home some structure to their offense. His early tweaks to the PP--with the help of Leach it seems--has helped with the man advantage. Now he's got to get them to attack in a much smarter fashion 5-on-5.

This is a huge kill. They are asking to give up the goal with two pp's in a row with that power play.

Wow. That 3 way passing play is probably the first real chemistry I've seen this season between 3 forward linemates. No joke.

Ooh, I'm liking Backstrom's aggression on that play--parking in the crease for a possible rebound. It shows a willingness to take punishment.
