"[Coach] Bruce [Boudreau] has really been preaching mental toughness and not feeling sorry for ourselves," defenseman Brian Pothier said. "We faced some adversity, but we were able to step up and get it done anyway."
I think when it comes right down to it, this is the key. The play hard. They control the play. They don't score a lot because a big chunk of their offense is damaged by injury(that includes Semin who is not in game gear yet).
I still feel that players like Pettinger, Laich, Morrisonn, Jurcina and even Clark and Kolzig expected this team would be good. That their efforts to keep the team respectable when the young guys were too young and the veterans not talented enough would pay off this season.
They just need to face it. They must win 2-1. They have given in to the frustration and disappointment too often. They need to return to the mental toughness of last season and take advantage of the improvement of their young players and start winning games this season that were close losses last.
Maybe Johnson needs to play some more and let Olie watch.
At somepoint Semin is going to start scoring. With Green's improved play and Nylander piling points at a point per game level, the offense will come around and they will start winning. They need to be mentally strong enough right now to win enough with what they have til those other things start to come around.
