Pronger named Defensive Player of the Week

From the Blues to my inbox...

NHL Names Chris Pronger
Defensive Player Of The Week
MONDAY, Jan. 19, 2004 -- The NHL announced today they have name Chris Pronger as Defensive Player of the Week. Pronger recorded five points (3g, 2a) in four games for the week, including one game-winning goal, one power play goal and one power play assist. He tallied a three point game (2g, 1a) on January 12 vs. Chicago, moving into 12th place on the Blues all-time points list with 333. Pronger was also a plus-three for the week and averaged 27:42 of time on ice.

as a red wing fan, i can safely say. Keep it up chris! Keep being that Defensive player of the week.

because the blues as a team have already blown those games in hand out of the water, and now need to win them just to break even with Detroit.

So if he keeps playing like he has, I will tip my hat and say well done. Just as long as the blues keep playing like they have.

I think we all know that the Blues aren't going to continue playing as badly as they have the past few weeks. Every year they go through a slump in January and then come right out of it. Personally, I'm surprised that a 6 point lead is all the Wings have at this point.

they should change "defensive player of the week" to "defenseman with the most points" ...this award is a joke. Giving defensive awards to people based on their point production.. we already have the Norris trophy for that!

i agree, although sometimes the defenseman that has tallied the most points deserves it, it's not usually the case

They probably wouldn't change the name of the award to that because that's not what it's for. It's titled that way because the award is for the goaltender or defenseman who had the best week. It is NOT for the player who played the best defense in the week.

When Cory Sarich and Jassen Cullimore were the co-winners a few months ago, it was definitely not for their point production, I can tell you that.

^that was good, they should keep naming it like that. give the hard-working roleplayers some kudos and recognition.

It'll go to which one of Pronger & Blake has the better 2nd half (IMO).

Yes, absolutely. That being said I thought Al MacInnis should have won last year?
