In todays NHL if I had one player to take a shot with my life on the. Hejduk would be my choice.

He had another great shot earlier in the game to tie it up at 4-4.

It was a good call. He was in alone on the breakaway.

Wasn't the puck already in the net when the referee called the PS? They showed a replay and it appeared that the puck went on when Hejduk got tripped and... in. Just wondering if anybody else saw it.

I thought the same thing, but they never showed a good enough replay, but it did appear as if the puck went in the net.

Ironically he scored a crucial penalty shot goal January 11th against Chicago in which the Avalanche won 5-4 in overtime...

Yeah I saw that but since they didn't call it a goal or the annoucers didn't say anything I just assumed I was still suffering from my hangover and was still seeing things in blurred vision.

I was thinking the same thing...if the puck did indeed cross the goal line on that play, why wasn't the goal allowed?

I think the ref maybe mucked it up. Didn't the net get knocked off it's borings at the end of the play? Maybe the ref didn't allow cause of that.

If only the NHL had the same sort of zeal calling interference that they have with penalty shots...

He used the exact same shot he did in Chicago last week - high glove. Khabibulin should have watched ESPN before the shot.

From the replay i saw (and i only saw it once), the puck seemed to go in far before the net came dislodged. It was a strange play/non-call for sure, but i was pretty sure Hejduk was gonna bury it anyway...

Actually it was different. He put the puck in teh same place, but went about it totally different. In the first PS against Chicago, he was skating in the middle/right side of the ice, and roofed it on the right side. This time he was skating on the left side of the net the entire time and he went right and high. It was a absolutely beautiful goal.

Just saw the replay, and the puck was clearly in the net before the PS. What a bad non-call by the refs. You HAVE to be looking at the puck, ESPECIALLY when its on goal. It went straight in the net.....Khabi barely even touched it when it rolled in 5-hole. Yuck......

The big key to the Avs winning this game IMO, was that the Lightning who were dominating in their forechecking all night completely backed off that in the 3rd period. They just let the Avs come at them in the 3rd and didnt do anything about it. Its a shame because the Lightning dominated the majoirty of this game but just couldnt put away some of their chances, but they did give the Avs a run for their money tonight.

Lets say he misses the penalty shot, I wonder if the play is still reviewable upstairs, they technically didn't drop the puck.

"play" continued, even if it wasn't a face off. I don't think they can review it.

It all makes sense now, my friend and I were wondering why Sakic was talking to the ref before the penalty shot. At first I thought he was going to call a timeout, but that would be stupid to "ice" your own player like a field goal kicker. Obviously he wanted to know if the puck went into the net before the penalty shot. Oh well, this ending was more dramatic, an exciting finish to an exciting game.

goal cant by scored by a player crashing into a goalie, and shoving the goalie and the puck, across the goalline.

it doesnt matter if he was pushed, tripped or anything. If the result of the goal is from the player pushing or hitting the goalie, and thus dislodging or forcing the puck, the goal isnt counted.

ive seen this called quite a few times

That right there, my good folks, is evidence of why we should have shootouts instead of OT.
