You should probably assume fans know their team better than you do.

A general knowledge of the game is usually the common 'remedy' for alot of posters here.

EDIT: And avoid Trade Proposal Tourettes.

I think people are WAY too uptight about this board. One of the things that's entertaining about this particular board are some of the comically bad trade proposals. If you're that bothered by it, don't read it...it's not like it will really happen.

A bit of a thought:

Try and keep your proposal between 2 teams only. 3 team proposals around here always tend to unbalance things badly.

I registered an account on Canucks.com a couple years ago to make a similar thread of suggestions...it was utterly unsucessful despite receiving praise from many members. I knew it wouldn't help, but I wanted to explain to the CDC idiots exactly WHY it didn't make sense for Colorado to trade Hejduk to division rival Vancouver and WHY it didn't make sense for Nashville to trade then bluechip prospect Dan Hamhuis for Brent Sopel.

This thread is much more thorough, and despite the large quantity of ridiculous trade proposals on this board, the average poster IQ on HF is immeasureably higher than the festering cesspool of intellectual inferiority that is Canucks.com. I vote for a sticky, and that any poster who makes a terrible proposal be referred to this thread.

I was thinking of adding something about those, more like a word of caution when doing trades involving 3+ teams, as I'm not looking to tell people what they can and can't do as far as making proposals.

The funny thing is I agree with what he says about proposals, but when the hell do trades in the actual NHL ever meet those criteria. I get pissed when someone posts a stupid idea, but then some real dumbass GM does something even stupider.

To Colorado
Wade Redden
11th round pick

To Ottawa
Joe Sakic
Wojtek Wolski
Rob Blake

Sorry that was way too much to read so I thought I'd just make a good trade proposal =]

I'd add something along the lines of when you propose a trade you are representing your team and its fans. Flavour of the month seems to be Montreal fans trying to get Lecavalier in a poor quality for quantity type deal. When these proposals are made, it develops a stereotype so even when a Montreal fan comes up with a decent proposal, they get flamed regardless.

Good work, Lucky, but this is fighting a losing battle. Way back when, there used to be a separate Trade Proposals board, so that it didn't interfere with those who wanted real time discussions on actual trades, sourced rumors and signings. The concept was, unfortunately, scotched. Before that, there was a lot of controversy over simply having the word, "Proposal," placed in the thread title heading. Kids would just type in a name, which would lure members into the thread (maybe combination of pure laziness and some intentionally) to generate traffic. Yeah, it was only a few moments of time wasted, but the lack of an accurate title interfered with others trying to decide not to open the thread.

Since that time, it's just gotten ridiculous. Except for the summer signing period, time leading up to the trade deadline or a major deal is announced, it's rarely worth visiting this board anymore because of the proposals. Most of them are garbage and will remain that way for the reason already mentioned:

I vote for a sticky on this thread!

The biggest mistake and the one that bothers me the most is the thought that quantity=quality.

One problem.

GMs are major homers and sometimes pull the trigger without the most thought.
