I think that the habs must trade to fill Bouillon's place with a stay at home D who can give us hits and roughness. Theo needs more protection in the playoffs to win tough games especially if we meet teams like Toronto and Philadelphia. Gauthier, Witt, Richardson are names that comes first to me.

Bouillon had one of his better games of the season saturday versus the Rangers...pretty inopportune time to bring this up...He's been sturdy and for the most part dependable for the entire season and I would rather keep him than give up something useful to "upgrade"
Errr... maybe it's just me, but I'm under the impression that Bouillon is playing some pretty darn good hockey lately. We need someone tougher than him? huh?
In case of injury in the playoff, the habs don't have the depth to fill the spot of souray, Quintal and rivet. Just an experienced D who can add toughness in the playoffs. Sometimes, Bouillon just suffered of his lack of size despite his heart big like the Bell centre.
Witt will cost too much. He's a legit #3, possibly #2 defenseman.
Gauthier always intrigues me, but he's playing a fairly important role in Calgary. If they dealt him, they'd have Commodore or Montador in their top six. That would significantly weaken their defense. While they have a good solid top six, dealing any of their defensemen would significantly weaken it.
In short: Gauthier would be expensive. Forget the Perreault rumours.
Richardson might be a viable option, but I'm not sure how interested Columbus is on selling off all the players they bought on the UFA market. He is also very immobile and not a major upgrade over Bouillon, to be honest.
All in all, I wouldn't mind an upgrade on defense. But what could Montreal deal? You will not get an upgrade on defense without sacrificing a valuable asset. That asset would either be a roster player like Markov (if he is seen as expendable with Souray's emergence as a PP QB, and Brisebois being capable on the second unit), or a future asset like Plekanec.
Either way, it doesn't interest me too much. Bouillon has been strong of late, and while I'm not too fond of the idea of heading into a playoff race with him as a top six defenseman, I don't think the team should mortgage any future for short-term success, nor do I see the team moving roster players.

are we in the playoffs ?
we 've got 2-3 players in the ahl that can be call up...it's not that i think that we are safe and in a good position but we have already enought people that are crying about bouillon that takes the place of Hainsey , geez i could imagine what it's going to be if they add another defenser....please , don't even talk about this possibility...
Bouillon does good job for a 6th defender whose job is to fill in for Hainsey. I'd rather see them getting rid of Dykhuis and Traverse and certainly NOT bring another veteran dman. Clear logjam, dont build one.
Gauthier would be great, no doubt, but it would mean there wouldnt be room for Hainsey when he gets his game together eventually.
If we somehow make the playoffs, which isnt guaranteed by any means, we'll always
have Hainsey, Beauchemin Dykhuis and Traverse to call up for.
Besides there are more pressing needs for the team - that checking line center.

I like Bouillon, I like what he brings to the team and I appreciate his style of play. Being objective though, he does have a history of making costly mistakes and sometimes his size gets him into trouble in our own end. Having said that, we can't really go with out his intensity, his work ethic and the leadership he's starting to show...IMO he'd be better suited to play 3rd/4th line wing. His experience playing D would bring a strong defensive presence to the forward lines and we'd be keeping all his assests in the line up, but also putting him in a situation where his weakness can't as easily be exploited. He could be an energizer 'spark plug' type player who could be used to get under the skin of opposing teams, and might be an ideal winger for Begin

Gauthier or Witt would be a good addition if we could obtain one of them fairly cheap (which I doubt). They are both fairly young and would improve us defensively. I wouldn't want to see BG mess too much with the current roster or start trading off our stable of prospects to obtain one mind you.
Richardson wouldn't be an upgrade over what we have and would end up being an expensive insurance policy. The only way I would want to see BG acquire him is if he is in the last year of his contract (I don't think he is, but I'm not sure) and we didn't give up more than a 4th rounder.

I desagree. Last season I would say yes, please bring more experience! This year we got a real good staff on defense. Bouillon is doing a good job doing exacly you want to replace him with: stay at home D who can give us hits and roughness. Souray is having his best season, Rivet had a bad start but now he is ok. Nothing to worry about Brisebois and Quintal, Markov is the only asset that is not giving what he was attended to, but I'm sure he will come back strong.
Even backups aren't bad: Dykhuis who had a really bad season last year is still an experienced defenceman, Hainsey and Komisarek wont be so bad if they play on their position.
Theo have protection this year. We have bigger d-man (Souray, Komisarek) and winger (Dagenais, Ryder, Langdon) than last season. IMO the only thing that Gainey thinks is to get a big right handed center. But if the opportunity shows up to get a big defenseman without touching main assets, BG will take it.
