Oh how times change..(1992 + 1994 Future Watch)

Looking back at my Hockey News 1994 Future Watch special:

WHO????

Here's the top 10 list -

1.Valerie Bure
2.Saku Koivu
3.Jim Campbell
4.Brian Savage
5.Christian Proulx
6.David Wilkie
7.Craig Darby
8.Turner Stevenson
9.Les Kuntar
10.Rory Fitzpatrick.

2 years earlier in 1992:

1.Vladimir Vujtek
2.Gilbert Dionne
3.Patrick Lebeau
4.Paul DiPietro
5.Patrice Brisebois
6.Sean Hill
7.Brent Bilodeau
8.Patrik Kjellberg
9.Turner Stevenson

I don't know about you guys, but stuff like this always interests me.

I have all the Draft Previews since 1987, and all of the Future Watch issues.

If you have any questions or anything i'll try to get back to you

The ghosts of the Forum saw that list and took off on an odyssey to Boston, Massachusetts. It took them 10 years but they arrived in October of 2004. They currently reside in Pesky's pole.

I think Koivu stole all these players talent.

I always asked myself what the habs saw in those 1st round picks from the 90's!!!

Brad Brown 94
Terry Ryan 95
Matt Higgins 96

I remember them being so hyped up at the time... but turned out they were freaggin Disaster!!!

I prefer not remenising on these things, i get really p-o when i think about that dark period...

The '90s drafts had been disasters for longer than that... Lindsay Vallis, David Wilkie, Brent Bilodeau. For the most part I think they saw some sized bodies...

They used to draft the "boeuf de l'ouest"
Which was pretty ridiculous cause none of these guys cracked the habs lineup or still playing in the nhl

Some quotes/predictions are gold.

Koivu is evidently the clear superior player on that list and it's not even close.

The rest ,who were inferior players, became complete mediocre busts.

here's from an older post of mine..Thought you guys might be interested.

Patrice Brisebois's bio from the 1989 Draft Preview:

Quote:
There was a time not so long ago when Patrice Brisebois was touted as a possible no. 1 overall pick in 1989. Not any more. The Laval Titan defenseman is still a consensus first rounder, but he could slip to early in the 2nd round. "He is a highly skilled, totally offensive defenseman," says one scout. "His offensive instincts are great." But there appear to be more negatives than positives. "He's a complete liability defensively." says another scout. "He isn't very strong and he hasn't shown signs of developing his strength to any great extent. He's really a skinny kid who is prone to injuries." Another says, "I don't believe he's as good as J.J. Daigneault (Vancouver's first rounder, 10th overall in 1984) and look where Daigneault is." Daigneault finished the 1988-89 season with Sherbrooke in the AHL. Nevertheless, others argue strength and defensive approach can be improved upon. Unlike offensive flair. "With Quebec picking first in the second round, I can't see him slipping any further than that." says a scout. "If he were available a year ago, a lot of people would have said he's right up there with Mike Modano and Trevor Linden." Modano and Linden were chosen first and second overall, repectively, in 1988.

lol, true.

It's great to back and read old articles because you know how things turn out.

Reading through alot of issues from 1990, there's alot of talk about Mike Ricci being the next Bobby Clarke and leading Philly into the promise land.

There's also lots of talk about Petr Nedved's courage. He defected to play hockey in Seattle (WHL) to follow his NHL dreams.

Also, some shy kid that goes by the name of Jaromir Jagr is starting to get alot of attention as a possible 1st rounder.

Reminds me of PK Subban's bio, but Subban can skate better.

He was only a bust in Montreal.

edit: Actually that's not really true, he just didn't live up to his billing because of his brother.
