Flames vs. Ducks

What a surreal game, First of the Flames win without Iginla (doubted by many) but not only that, they explode for 5 goals in the last two periods and win big, without Iggy. Not just that, they also get severely outshot by the Ducks in the first and Turek (despite allowing one goal) holds them in the game and manages 2nd star. Conroy rediscovers his offense with 4 assists, Kobasew comes back and immediately produces 2 assists, Saprykin has a goal without Iggy there on his line. Just crazy.

BTW with his 4 assists Conroy moved to 41st all time in Flame points with 156 ahead of Marc Savard and Pekka Rautakallio.

Well the Flames were a bit off their game in the 1st period, it seemed. Then they were shorthanded for 5 minutes after Oliwa got tossed for his little run in to Giguere.

They really cut down the shots and the scoring chances after the 1st, and got some timely scoring from those guys that need to step up while Iggy's out, i.e. Gelinas and Saprykin, and the powerplay had a good night too with Lydman and Clark taking advantage.

It was nice to see Conroy have a good night with 4 assists, with Kobasew and Ference chipping in with 2 assists each.

Congrats to 'Large' for getting his 1st win of the season. We really need him to be on his game from now 'till the All-Star break, which by some accounts is his time frame to prove his worth to Sutter.

Will he be honored in a ceremony before the next home game?

The important thing is the two points is money in the bank. Hopefully, it will be more of the same tonight. We have to tips our hats to how hot Colorado's been since the holidays. It looked like the Flames had the Avs within their sites, but it just hasn't been possible to make up ground. In the conference standings, Nashville seems to have come out of nowhere.
