Tverdovskiy does not like bigger ice and no red line rule!

Oleg Tverdovskiy is now playing in Russian Superleague and has views on bigger European ice and no red line rule. He does not like both. He thinks there is too much unneeded skating around and no red line rule makes hockey very defensive.

He played both in NHL in Europe, what is wrong with that to hear his opinion?

no red line wont help the NHL. Euro leagues are even worse to watch say the NHL scouts. Even Brian Burke who has a team made to skate says its not a good idea.

Or it could be the fact that the Russian league is known for defensive oriented play in recent years. It's one of the lowest scoring leagues in Europe. He should try playing in the Finnish league were all the rinks aren't international size and some teams like to play offense oriented hockey.

Because those aren't reasons why scoring is down everywhere (not sure it is, though). Goalies are bigger and better everywhere, as are defensemen. Big ice or the lack of 2 line pass- rule aren't allways to blame.

I dont understand why people want to add more ice surface to the NHL when half the players in the league now can barely play on whats there??

Heres a novel idea, make the rinks smaller.

Increase hitting, give these less skilled watered down NHL'rs less room to screw up, and make it easier for talented guys to capitalize on the oppositions mistake.

Or take out the red line and make the surface drasticly smaller.

And make nets bigger, or the goalie pads smaller, take your pick.


Seriously though, i would leave the ice the way it is, i dont watch soccer becuase until u get down into the other teams goal area, its pretty boring to me, so much room to work with and pass, its like playing keep away.

Again with the misconception that NHL rinks should be international size. They don't have to be that big! The WJC's were played in a rink that was 94 feet wide, which, someone had calculated, is how wide the rinks should be in proportion to the increase in size of the players.
