Schedule Tidbit

Had a little time today to figure something out.

Being that the Devils play Washington tonight and they are playing back-to-back games wanted to see how the Rangers compared to the rest of the Atlantic in that regard.

I know that scheduling is very tough to formulate, and that the Garden is a very difficult place to book (after all its the worlds most famous arena!) SO there is no conspiracy theory here, I'm just simply pointing this out for everyone.

We all know how teams lose their legs in the third and play a different game to compensate for the skating the night before. To me there is a decisive advantage in these games, especially late in the game.

Here are the results...

Games played against teams who played the night before:

Devils: 19
Flyers: 19
Islanders: 18
Pittsburgh: 17

Rangers: 13

Back to Back games on their schedule: (Two games in a row)

Pittsburgh: 14
Devils: 17
Islanders: 17
Rangers: 17
Flyers: 17

Taking all of this into account lets look at the difference or +/- rating of each team:

Pitt: +3
Flyers: +2
Devils: +2
Islanders: +1

Rangers -4

Thats a 7 game swing from the Rangers to the Pittsburgh Crosby's. You have to think over the course of the season that thats good for a few wins and easier competition level.

Again, not saying the schedules fixed, just stating it because its interesting.

Interesting. I dont think it makes that big of a difference, but yea the rangers do have a small disadvantage there.
