This is exactly what gives hockey a bad name.

I disagree with both players being suspended for the rest of the season and playoffs. Tropp for sure, that was dirty and on purpose. Conboy's roughing penalties were fair but if they wanted stricter penalties maybe at most a 10 min misconduct could have been given. Conboy's hit looked fairly clean from that view: he came from behind but hit Kampfer on his side and if the puck was close it would be a clean hit. Tropp came in and started slashing and the video shows Conboy shove Tropp away (at the 1:51 mark of the vid) it even looks like the ref came in to break up Conboy and Tropp (at 1:54) before any Michigan players came into the scrum.

I guess Conboy didn't agree with it since he left school, guess he's going to turn pro now.

Yes he left school, so it's either back to the USHL or turn pro.

Gigantic win last night. Notre Dame hadn't lost since October 25.

Let's get the sweep in Yost...

Michigan took it to OS-Screw 4-1 tonight, while hitting at least 3 posts. Hopefully they can finish the sweep tomorrow and secure 3rd overall in the CCHA!

Real tough loss for U of M tonight.... had a great start with the 2-0 lead, but Pearce came up big and ND potted 3 in the 3rd. Blah.... hope we get the chance to play them in the Frozen Four!

What a crappy way to end the season. Michigan dominated AF statistically but ran into a wall.

Tip my hat to Air Force.

Michigan hit too many posts, but Air Force played them hard and deserved to win.

With Michigan and Denver (both #1 seeds) losing, I think it goes to show how much parity there is in college hockey (and college sports in general).

IMO -- this tournament is wide open and anyone can win it. I probably wouldn't have said that even 5 years ago.

GO Blue!!

Michigan's 2009-2010 roster has been posted on MGoBlue.com

Of note, Chris Summers will be wearing the "C" and the notable freshmen joining the ranks are Chris Brown (drafted by PHO), Kevin Lynch (drafted by CBJ), and Lee Moffie (undrafted). Hopefully Brown and Lynch can contribute right away.

So Kampfer will be back, for some reason I thought I heard he was leaving early. Is Summers going to be back on D or will they move him to forward?

There has been some discussion about where Summers will be... most UM fans and bloggers see him being on D. In addition, Red Berenson has made repeated reference to his desire to have the speed and savvy of Summers on the blueline. It's a tough call, IMO, bc D-depth is the strength of the team, and more help could be needed at the forward positions.

How much input do you think Phoenix has on the matter? My preference would be to keep him on D. But like you said, the need up front may be what ends up moving Summers there.

I am sure that Phoenix would make its preference known to both Summers and Berenson. If there wasn't some sort of understanding between the parties before the season started, then I would think that PHO would have told Summers he needed to turn pro and join their AHL affiliate to get the seasoning he needs.

Makes sense, as a Hab fan though I am hoping to see Greg Pateryn get more ice time, so I hope Summers is a forward.

Anyone have any info on David Wohlberg's knee injury. All I know is that he was not able to participate in the Devil's summer camp and US U-20 camp?

Did it happen late last year? Serious/minor? Any anticipated delay to the start of his season?

Pateryn should get plenty of time this year... if Summers is on D the odd man out may very well be Scooter Vaughan.

Brown has a great chance of being the freshman of the year in the CCHA. The kid will be a stud at UM if he is allowed to stay more than a year.

Good insight into the D-men situation for the Wolverines courtesy of the Rink Yost Built...

Hockey approacheth. Tim of Yost Built is kicking off season preview-related activities with five burning questions for the season. I'd forgotten how preposterously deep Michigan is at D:

The Wolverines are carrying nine defensemen on the roster right now: Chris Summers, Steve Kampfer, Brandon Burlon, Chad Langlais, Tristin Llewellyn, Scooter Vaughan, Greg Pateryn, Lee Moffie, and Eric Elmblad. The first four are locks to be in the lineup every night, barring injury. There are fewer games to go around (at least in theory) for the third-pairing defensemen since Kampfer and Burlon are healthy after missing a combined 24 games a year ago.

Wow. Vaughn's been dogged with persistent rumors of a move to forward, but they could hypothetically redshirt Moffie if he wanted to be redshirted. (Moffie wasn't drafted by the NHL, FWIW, so he might be amenable to that in an effort to get more playing time overall.) The upshot is that Bryan Hogan is the hockey team's Brandon Graham—he cannot get injured—and that the team looks like it should own again, though hopefully with better luck in the tournament this time.
