Could we have gotten Williams?

How does Markov compare to Gauthier or Lydman?
Could we have done the deal and gotten Williams? He would have looked good on the right side, and then we could send Kobasew down for more seasoning. I wonder if Sutter and Clarke talked?

Imagine how wicked the PP would be with Sheldon Souray along the blue line.

As soon as Williams passes Donovan in goals scored let me know.

That kid is so overrated it's not even funny.

I would take Gauthier over Markov and Lydman maybe just below Markov only because of Markovs physical play ..Markov is a warrior but i wonder where his head is at ..what is it 4 teams in 3 years ??Maybe another russian player who isnt worth the grief .As for Williams hes a 22 year old smoothie who may blossom with a change of scenery ..there is NO question he has the tools ...i can honestly say i was shocked the Flyers gave him up .

Weird. I would take Markov over Gauthier but Lydman WAY over Markov. I should change my name to Lydman Fan. Jeesh, the guy gets no respect.

I also think that Lydman is worth more than Gauthier. But I would have done Gauthier for Williams in an instant.

McAmm Conroy Iggy
Sappy Rein Williams
Gelinas Yelle Dono
Loyns/Oliwa Lomb Kob/Clark

That would definitly help the team

Sutter would only be willing to give up Gauthier for Williams and Markov is better than Gauthier so I don't think we could have got him.

Just felt like saying it. This was the only opportunity to do so, and it wasn't worth starting a new thread. Souray became more than what was ever expected of him. He was always a decent physical d-man, as evidenced by the fact that he was drafted by NJ. His injury history caused him to lose a lot of valuable service time in Montreal. Look at him now. He's become an offensive force.

As 6 String Benny astutely noted, the key word is "imagine." In Calgary, he would immediately be the #1. He brings a strong offensive game to the table, and has a mean streak. Souray comes from Saskatchawan AND has a Baywatch babe wife. What more could you want? He's more valuable than Markov. If French Canada really wants Gauthier back that badly, assemble a package involving him for Souray. However, something tells me that Bob Gainey has already pencilled Souray's name under the untouchable list, which also includes Theodore & Koivu.

I don't see how he's hugely overrated. He's 22 and will be a great player in this league. You don't see him improving?

Doubt they'd be willing to give up Souray. Besides, I'd much rather get a legit forward in a package return.
Clarke had said he contacted a bunch of teams. Since we're deep on D, he must have talked to Sutter. Who was asking for too much?

I heard on the Fan 960 yesterday that Peter Mahr asked Sutter if he talked to Clarke, and Sutter just smiled and didn't answer.

A great player?

Sure, I see him improving...but why on earth would Calgary want to break up their defense to get ANOTHER guy who might improve and become a solid player?

We've got 3 in the lineup as it is.

I don't think moving Lydman for him would have improved our team at all nor do I think a fit was there.

I just don't think he's super overrated. Maybe super coveted by some Flames fans...

I'd rather have the super underrated Lydman.
