Looking ahead...way ahead

Looking ahead to February 20-something to the trade deadline, we all assume that Ryder will be traded. If we look at the list of other Mtl UFAs to be, we see the following names.

Huet
Brisebois
Streit
Smolinski

Streit, I imagine Bob will try to resign.

Breezy may not make it til then, and I don’t see much of a market for him, even though he would make a good candidate for spot duty especially on the PP

If Smo can waive his NTC, we may be able to get a mid to late round pick for him if not big deal.

Huet, tho. If Price steals the #1 job from him, then what do we do with Huet. Bob will most likely keep him because he likes to play things safe and have depth at all positions especially the back end.

I do see another option tho. Get the combination prospects and picks for him as per usual, then turn around and acquire a veteran AHL goalie to throw on the farm and be the fall back guy or insurance policy if you will if Price and/or Halak are not quite ready for the playoffs. Another Leighton like last year. A guy like Wade Flaherty is easily obtained for a 4th or something.

What does everyone think.

letès just tell Smolinski that he doesn't have a no american league close on his contract and if he wants to stay in the nhl he better waive his NTC

Finding a decent backup goalie won't be difficult. There's plenty of them out there and they're cheap.
