It appears as if Andy Murray in his infinite wisdom is shifting Perron with Johnson and Hinote. Let me guess, after he fails to generate any offense this game in the 8 minutes he'll play with those 2 offensive stiffs, he'll be on his way back to the pressbox
Andy McDonald! Welcome to the Blues...assisted by Brewer
BTW: Murray is still generating the offensive game by giving Perron Hinote and Johnson. In his less than 3 minutes of playing time this period, Perron managed to set up Hinote, who surprisingly didn't score
For God's sake, Checker - what line is he going to play against tonight? Look at Calgary's team, look at their forward combinations, look at who they rolled in the first period, and tell me who he was supposed to play against that he would have played 5-7 minutes.
Iginla-Langkow-Huselius? Nolan-Conroy-Tanguay? Yelle-Lombardi-Nystrom? Which of those combinations would have been ideal to throw a kid who's got 18 NHL games against, ignoring the fact that Phaneuf would go out of his way to plaster him against the boards or ice if he gets a chance.

If Murray thinks Perron aboslutely can't match up against the majority of the oppostitions' players, why dress him. The fact is that every game Perron has played he's generated some offensive chances. Are there weaknesses in Perron's game. Absolutely, but it's hard to improve on those when the coach's philosophy is to bench him rather than let him grow. Face friggin facts. Playing Perron with Hinote and Johnson is something Mike Kitchen would have done and everyone (yourself included) would have ripped him for. Because Murray is generally liked, we're now defending this same strategy as match-up problems...unbelievable
That said, I'd like to know at what point people will quit looking at Salvador's +/- rating of +10 and realize his defensive play is just brutal at times [like on that last goal].

Because I'm not ripping him for playing Perron on a 4th line right now doesn't mean I approve of the move. No, I'd rather if he can't trust him to play with these guys, he sat Perron in the press box [to which you'd complain about as well] ... but he didn't. Given that he didn't, I don't know what a "good" line to match him up against would be.
[Though as I type this, he's out against Iginla's line and did a decent job of keeping the Flames at bay.]
The difference between Murray and Kitchen: Murray makes no guarantees about where a guy's going to play. Kitchen would have talked about how Perron had all kinds of skill and was a guy who the Blues would count on to fill a top-6 forward spot, then stuck him on the 4th line for 5-7 games in a row, then scratched him and cited his lack of production.
Perron beautifully sets up Hinote...again
Hinote misses...again
Who knows maybe a Backes or Stempniak finishes those and we'd be up...?
I guess I don't get the matching of Perron based on Perron's defensive weaknesses. No matter what line Perron plays on, he's going to be a wildcard defensively. The difference is if he plays with a 4th line, not only is he going to be a wildcard defensively, but most of the offense he can generate will be neutered due to insufficient linemates.
While Murray doesn't talk about Perron needing to play on a certain line, he does give the old "your minutes re based on your play and effort bs" If that was true, we both know that Perron would play more than 1:44 in a first period.
That said, as far as Salvador goes, lets hope other teams are blinded by his+/- until at least the trade deadline. I can't see him being in the Blues plans beyond this season. At least, I hope he's not in our plans

Comment of the month. Thank you for injecting some objectivity and realism into these boards.
Also, I've never heard more biased commentators. (I'm watching the game on NHLCI.) Absolutely ridiculously skewed comments; almost as bad as watching Faux News.

Clearly Boyes should've been called for a 5 minute pwning penalty!
