NHL Record for PIMs by a rookie

Jared Boll in his rookie season is on pace for 293 penalty minutes, which destroys Jody Shelley's Columbus franchise record of 206, but I haven't been able to find the highest total for ALL rookies.

I have to think that it's higher than 206.

Does anyone know what it is?

Send a message via ICQ to Jungosi
I looked up a few famous fighters /goons

Link Gaetz - 326 in 48
Mike Peluso - 320 in 53
Dave Schultz - 259 in 76
Dale Hunter - 226 in 80
Marty McSorley - 224 in 72

Btw : Some of the best fighters or pim-getters are named Dave (Brown,Schultz,Williams,Semenko).

Since Gaetz's previous seasons added up to less than 25 games I think that would qualify as his rookie season

And that probably answers my question... thanks!

Isn't Carcillo rookie? He may end very high in this stat. Of course it depends how quickly he returns after recent knee injury.

Carcillo's the only guy in the league with more PIMs than Boll (something like 170), so if anyone has a chance of breaking the record, it's gotta be him.

But something I notice about rookies is that they tend to learn discipline midway through the season. With guys like Kocur, Gaetz, etc., it was their job to start **** and be unruly, but in today's NHL things are a lot tighter and every player has to contribute in other ways. So if a rookie continues to put his team on the penalty kill, he'll probably find himself without a place on the team.

Kind of interesting that all of the NHL rookies in pnep's list played in the last quarter of the 20th century - relatively recently, so to speak.

Alan May, Caps, #2 on the list. Why does this guy escape memory entirely?
