OT: New Years Plans in NYC...

For those of you who are of age (or have a fake ID), where are some of your destinations for NYE? I'm looking at going w/ a group to this lounge off 21st called 'Room Service'... 6 Hour Open Bar for around $100 sounds good to me!!!

I enjoy staying home on New Years Eve and watching all the tourists crowd around Times Square and see the looks on their faces when they realize " wow, this looked alot more fun on TV, and less cold". You know your officially old when you look more forward to the Twilight Zone marathon on New Years day then you do to New Years Eve night.

Going to a concert at the Highline Ballroom in the west village, and home in time for the game the next day.

I do the same thing watch Twilight Zone, maybe go out for a little, but my new years is the Rangers game the night before where half of the section goes out for dinner.

I will be at a place called Bar None. never been there but friends say its a good time. $60 open bar from 9pm-3am. Figured there wasn't another place that could compare to that deal.

Got to be careful with those flat-rate open bar deals. They are usually very crowded and usually very understaffed.

Quite true... There is an art to picking the right spot (and it's always good to know one of the bartenders that work there )...

My friend's been planning a party in the courtyard of his building for a while. Heated tent, live band, and of course open bar.

I'm pumped.

Don't go to Times Square.

If you are only going to be in New York once in your life and want to experience it, have a blast. But I've lived here my whole life and there isn't any place on earth I'd rather NOT be than Times Square on New Years Eve. There are plenty of great bars around the city that will probably have a special menu and/or opening bar and free champagne that would be alot more enjoyable.

By the way I will be at Two Boots in Park Slope on Monday night.

there is no way i'm paying anything near a $100 cover charge for an open bar thats going to be packed to hell. that doesn't even reserve you a table. **** that.

my friend is having a party. thats where i'll be.

thats terrible advice i think

1. time square is certainly a once in a life time unique experience, you should do it if you have the chance to because odds are you won't the next time and you won't ever do it again.

2. those bars around the city will NOT be open for anyone to just walk in. you'll have to have already put your name on the list and on top of that, pay a cover charge like the one above. and honestly they are just annoying to experience. its past the point of ridiculous how crowded they get.

Have you been to Times Square for new years? I never have and dont plan on it, but it might be a cool experience for an out of towner who's never been to TS.

I'd personally advise against it though.

I plan on having a quiet new years! My wife gave birth a few weeks ago and we'll prob spend it around family.

I will say though the Village is the best place to party on New Years! Girls will DO ANYTHING in those clubs.

I'm sure it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and hey, maybe an out-of-towner would love it, but the idea of being that tightly pressed in with so many people, no bathrooms and just the overall congestion of it doesn't seem like much fun to me. Of course, I live here and I never have, nor will go to T.S. on New Years. So maybe someone who has actually done it or another person coming here from out of town would have a better idea.

And not every bar is like that. I agree that many in the city are like that (which is why I'm avoiding going into Manhattan), but there are certainly places in Williamsburg, Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights and Kensington that most likely aren't close to as crowded as the city and it doesn't cost that much to reserve a spot (The place I reserved requires just a $10 cover). For instance, I love Stout, but I would NEVER go there for Times Square. It's already too crowded even after just a Rangers game. I can't even imagine what it would be like for New Years Eve.
