Wow, did I see Huselius + + coming in for these guys? I like Orpik, but so long...don't forget to write...

I wish the other 29 GMs valued Orpik as much as you guys do...he's not panning out all that well, he's shaping up to be a 5-7 physical defenseman...but he doesn't really block shots, he doesn't drop the gloves really, he doesn't really have any puck handling ability, good skater though...an absolute train wreck on odd man rushes, especially recently...I don't know what happened, but now he's 27 and a UFA, and I'll take whatever we can for him...I don't care what happens to Ruutu...and Roberts would be nice to have back in April, but with Eaton down and out, Fleury down and out, I'm not sure if Gary Roberts' playoff snarl is gonna come into play...

If we net a decent winger and an NHL-caliber defensive defenseman out of that trash heap, sign me up...please...

Pitkanen might appreciate a fellow Finnish player and Edmonton could send Stortini back to his hole.
I wouldn't put too much stock into that. The Flyers had several fins on the roster and it didn't prove to be much help, Joni is just a loner.

Vancouver would love to get Ruutu back. Especially if it could be done for Cooke or even a 4th/5th.

Says who? We're already one of the more penalized teams in the league and Ruutu is in the bottom third of his team in terms or plus/minus currently. His one assist so far indicates he's not going to produce any more offense than Matt Cooke or any of our other plugs. We have enough 'sandpaper' guys among the forwards. I would say we need a bit more grit on defense but that will be Kevin Bieksa's role to fill upon his return.

I suppose there is the fact that Ruutu is 4 for 9 lifetime in the shootout, but I really don't think it makes him worthwhile.

Wow...if that is all it took was Ruutu, I'd be all over that. Talbot and Malone will be back soon, so that is 2 fwds to sit...one will be Jeff Taffe, and most likely, the other Ruutu. Unless Therrien feels the need to drop Crusher to the 4th line and not like his play and scratch him.

Montreal needs those players. Well, not Orpik, although he'd be a lot better than Gorges as our 7th D, but Roberts and Ruutu would finally add some grit and heart to our lineup. While we're at it, wonder what it would take to get Laraque...

I'm not 100% opposed to trading Staios, and I admit Rutuu is a type of player we could use (I hate admitting that because I've hated Rutuu ever since he felt the need to demonstrate his toughness by dropping the gloves with Fernando freaking Pisani), but if that was a straight up trade, I'd probably choke a ***** ... er, I mean Kevin Lowe.

You get a player like Rutuu with prospects we don't have a need for anymore. If you can't, then fine, we'll live without him.

The Pens need to be bringing in physical defensemen, not trading them away, but with this team, who knows? Hopefully Shero can pick up another offensive defenseman this summer.

sheds Warrener's salary for next season and get an agitator the flames need as well as a playoff warrior in roberts... plus if huselius doesn't resign they would get a decent pick in the 2nd round (the flames don't currently have a 2nd rounder)

Whoa. Most of the proposals in this thread are actually pretty good.

Zanon and Klein for Orpik? I'd do it.

Fact is he hits and no one else does. He can play a solid defensive game. He is more than willing to block shots. Is he a superstar? No, but he is a pretty big peice of the defensive picture.

If he's such a "big piece of the defensive picture" then why was he a healthy scratch in 4 of the last 8 games?

Him being sat was just a point being sent from Therrien. He wasn't playing up to par, or he wasn't working hard. Nonetheless, Orpik is a solid defenseman and is unlike any other defenseman we have on the Pens squad right now. Untill we get more big bodied, physical defensemen, he is a crucial peice to the defense.

That's just it. We need to upgrade Orpik, not keep him. We need a better Orpik. One who is way more consistent in the hitting game, one who is better at blocking shots and shutting down the opposition. If he were right-handed, it would be even better but not critical.

Three potential UFA's on the market this summer that would be great for us are (in order)...

Mike Commodore (Car)
Jason Smith (Phi)
Adam Foote (CBJ)

As a disgruntled Kings fan I wouldn't mind seeing Ruutu re-united with Crawford, or Crawful as he's now being referred to. Kings lack passion and Ruutu excelled under Crawford.

Because the Pens are coached by a man who once lost a game of chess to a lawnmower.
