- Players are faster because of lighter gear.

There's already so little time and space to do anything out there, how is making the players faster going to help. It would be one thing if coaches actually used this to generate more offense. But every technological advancement in the game is used for defensive purposes.

I'm really curious to know how they made those heated skates work. Having more heat on the blade means you're a lot more prone to corrosion, especially considering it works by melting the ice a bit. The stainless steel they use, if it is stainless steel, must be pretty expensive.

For $400, not even worth giving it a try.

Actually, it's a really cool concept from an engineering POV.

Next they should make visors with heads up displays (HUD)! The HUD will reference a team database and provide a strength/weakness assesment of the opposing player/goalie on the fly, as well as maintain the location of other teammates and opponents on the ice. This well let anyone have the vision and hockey IQ of Wayne Gretzky, all for the low price of $2499! Buyers have to get electrical wiring and WIFI antenna installed to their helmets seperately.

I agree with you guys, its pretty stupid, i would laugh if one of the blades had a malfunction and over heated, you see a guy at the face off circle and the ice just starts melting into slush at his feet, better yet it corrodes and turns yellow, makes him look like he pissed him self.

I am surprised the NHL would even allow this.

Or what if one battery dies on one skate? Will the other skate feel faster or different making the player off balance?

randy, I like the HUD idea. Or better yet, cameras inserted all around the helmet so the player has a 360 view of everything. Who needs talent anymore? Why not just get 12 robots to play against each other?

Isn't it supposed to create less friction and resistance which leads to then requiring less force to make you go fast? Then wouldn't that lead to your legs being less tired by the end of the game? Why would this be such a bad thing?
