Rangers scouting Sharks (and/or Kings)

From Spector's:

SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS: "David Pollak recently reported six scouts (from Vancouver, Chicago, Dallas, Boston, Pittsburgh and the NY Rangers) were in attendance for Wednesday's Sharks-LA Kings game."

Just because there are scouts there doesn't mean they'll be a trade.

Cheecho?

we got enough skill, we need a guy with size. id take a chance on clowe, bernier or grier, on d i do like mclaren. erhoff is decent and Vlasic is untouchable I would imagine.

Clowe, Bernier and Grier are all bottom 6 forwards, so we don't really need that. Bernier could still develop but we want someone who could help now. Not crazy about McLaren anymore, he seems like he's really fallen off in recent years. Ehrhoff is someone I've been touting for a while, he's more of an offensive-minded defenseman. But that's certainly something we could use.

I'd like the Rangers to try to get Michalek, but I doubt the Sharks would deal him.

The question is though, if the Rangers do deal for a legit top six forward, who gets bumped to the third line? You have:

Straka-Gomez-Jagr
Avery-Drury-Shanny

I mean as a GM you should look towards next year and the subsequent years down the road as well. Of the current top 6, Shanny is more than likely not going to be coming back next season, so the Rangers would need a replacement for him. Straka I would say is 50/50 on coming back.

and Jagr's got a year left. I don't think we're shopping for a top six. I'd say we're looking for a power foward for the bottom two lines, someone to stand in front of the net.

If you're looking for a Shanny replacement, Cheechoo makes the most sense.

The answer is simple...you named 6 guys, and only 5 are top 2 line talents. Avery drops down to the 3rd where he belongs.

We do play them in February after all. Not that it doesnt change the fact that we are more likely to make deals with western conference teams.
