Robert Esche

Does anyone know how he has been doing in Russia? Does anyone think he will play in the NHL again?

Only 4 games? Who's playing ahead of him to limit his games?

According to their official web-site, Esche has played 8 games so far and allowed 11 goals, he has recorded 2 shutouts as well. Noronen - 7 games and Kosheshkin - 18. Dont forget that there is a limit on foreign players in the RSL.

there he is

Any team gives him an offer and he's jumping the pond.

what if it's a 2 way offer for league minimum? doubt it if that's the case (and it likely would be)

2 way offer is irrelevant. He has to pass through waivers to be sent down and with a lot of teams needing a backup, he would likely get picked up. If a team thinks he's worthy enough to get a shot, then another will fall in line if he becomes available again.

I don't think a team will give him an offer though.

I can see him getting one in the off-season, but I'm pretty sure he'll have to pass through re-entry waivers to play this year, so he likely won't get an offer during the season.

I still maintain that Esche will be the 3rd goaltender for the US in 2010.

From everything I have been able to find, he is having a very good season. It is hard, however, to find statistics in english.

No he won't. Esche wants to play. He almost didn't go to the Olympics because he wasn't going to play. You don't want backup goalies who are pissed off that they're backup goalies.

NHL is a different story. When the Flyers brought in Biron, Esche stayed quiet, he only dressed one more game because Niittymaki's wife had a baby and didn't show up for a game. He was a good teammate last year.

I seriously doubt that. I know the U.S. doesn't have a tremendous amount of goaltender depth at this point, but I think there will be better options.

Miller
DiPietro
Thomas

And even if Miller and DiPietro are both there, I would think the people in charge would rather bring a young guy, such as Jimmy Howard, along as the 3rd goalie rather than some mid 30's back-up(in reference to Esche). But if Tim Thomas is still playing I can see him being thrilled just to have the chance to represent Team USA, even if it is strictly in a "cheerleading" role.

Or perhaps Cory Schneider. There's just no way Esche is the 3rd stringer. It'll be Thomas or a kid like Schneider or even Jeff Zaktoff.

Personally, I think Rob is more interested in getting back to the NHL than he is being a third string for Team USA for the second time.

If goalies like Esche and Thomas make it for the USA that is a serious black eye to the program and an absolute disgrace...hopefully one of the youngsters, any one of them, will go instead these jokes...if not, one of Canada's 8th stringers better get dual-citizenship like Knuble...

I would like to see the Leafs take a chance on Esche... he would at least give them a chance to win when in the net... unlike Raycroft or Clemmenson. The only thing I would worry about is wether he has any interest in being a back up and playing maybe 15 games....

How good is that for an RSL goalie?
