All Star Teams Named Tonight

If Mike York isn't on the team this year I will be extremely dissapointed in the NHL and the people choosing the teams. I am almost willing to bet everything I own that they will put Smyth on the team and if that is the case I quit. Any comments?

I could honestly see them putting Jason Smith on the team. Granted he isn't the most offensively gifted defenseman in the NHL, but he is averaging .30 points per game and has been very good all year long.

It depends on who is picking the team.

I would agree with that selection - but in the All Star Game I would much rather see a player with offensive talents like York than defensive responsibility. York has earned it.

i'm more interested to see who will be in the Young Guns game... I think hemsky could still qualify. The fact that horcoff (of all friggin people) replaced him last year was an embarassment to the oilers organization.

does semenov qualify as well? or do they only select offensive players?

too bad torres doesn't qualify. he deserves to be there.

defensive defensemen rarely get selected to the All-Star games, with the exception of Stevens and Hatcher or maybe Yushkevich a few years back.

I think York deserves to be our rep for the All-Star game. I believe he was an all star during his tenure on the FLY line...so this would be his second time. Thats quite an accomplishment for such a young player.

Based on the regulations I am almost positive Hemsky and Semenov are both eligible because they are still on their first entry level contract if I am not mistaken. Anyways it will be interesting. That game was more fun to watch than the real one 2 years ago.

If Ryan Smyth gets chosen, he should tellt he NHL, the there are guys on the team that deserve the spot more than him, and say York, Torres and Dvorak all deserve it more.

If any Oiler gets chosen, I'd place m bets cautiously...
York-40% chance
Smyth-30% chance
Torres-20% chance
Dvorak-10% chance

the worst part about york possibly being overlooked is that modano and fedorov will be sure things... stupid fans = stupid fan ballots.

I remember Bure being voted in and I don't think he played any games - if he did he played only a few. That is the worst setup ever.

If York doesnt get the nod, the weekend of Feb.2 will be just another weekend. I may tape the Youngstars (Hemsky and Semmy have to be there), but other than that.........what more can an Oiler fan ask for than to watch Naslund and Bertuzzi giggling during the skills competition followed by 4 Av's players having good chemistry during the actual game.

I'm drooling at the prospects of a York-Weight-Guerin line if York played the wing. Weight is amazing.

Its going to be tough. Especially since Dallas has three guys going as starters who might not have made it otherwise (Guerin, Turco, Modano). Assuming four lines of forwards are going to be picked, that means three lines left. Yorkie is currently in 27th place for scoring. That's what attracts the selection committee's eye.

Take a look at this review: http://www.canoe.ca/Slam040121/nhl_allstars-cp.html

Centre: (pick 3 of 4)
Modano (starter)
Datsyuk (7th scorer - breakout year)
Sakic (5th scorer)
Weight (18th scorer)
Demitra (18th scorer)
York (27th scorer - rep from Edm)
Nash (35th scorer - rep from Columbus)

Wing (pick 6 of 8)
Guerin (starter)
Bertuzzi (starter)
Naslund (1st scorer)
Tanguay (3rd scorer)
Tkachuk (8th scorer)
Doan (8th scorer - breakout year, rep from Phoenix)
Hejduk (8th scorer)
Hull (14th scorer)
Nagy (18th scorer)
Palffy (18th scorer)
Iginla (24th scorer)
York (27th scorer)

I may have to agree with you there. Now if we could get a player with Weight's skill level and Georges mindset about the city of Edmonton.

And, predictably, no Oilers are selected. I was thinking about getting myself worked up but why bother? Like the last few years, I won't be watching the all star game. It's one of the biggest dog and pony shows the NHL has to offer. Maybe reruns of ALF or something equally as exciting will be on.
