Flames-Preds

Hey, I missed this game too (two in a row, I'm not getting a healthy Flame dosage lately). But what were everyone's reports on it? I'm strangely glad to see Kobasew fight, how'd he do?

BTW, Conroy now has more points than Mike Bullard and is 40th all time, and Darryl Sutter now has 43 wins with the Flames, one more than the incomparable Greg Gilbert for 10th all time.

Good game by the Flames. They came to play from the start, with two powerplay goals in the first period (to Lombardi and Donovan). A shorthanded goal to Donovan and even strength goal to Lombardi in the second ended recently named All-Star Vokoun's night.

Four fights all up. Oliwa fought McKenzie in the first. Koby got beaten up by Walker but that's not unexpected. Iggy had his troubles with Tootoo, who allegedly gave Iggy a shot after he was on the ice, which cut Iggy under the eye. Oliwa then got some payback by beating up Stevenson.

Large got the shutout, but wasn't tested often. That makes 3 goalies having recorded a shutout for the Flames this season, which would be a team record I think.

I actually think Iggy was cut by the first Left Tootoo nailed him with. also I would say Oliwa won the stevenson fight but he wasn't beaten up by any means.

Thatís all that needs to be said for this game. Flames came out playing hard and the Preds, well, never showed up.

Stevenson got pounded worse than Iggy or Kobasew did. Open your eyes.

We got killed. We are a notoriously bad road team, but man the Flames dominated from the get go. The one chance at momentum in the game for hte Preds came off a hit post by Legwand (when we were only down by 2)....The Flames promptly scored.....ending all hopes of a come back.

At least both of these teams are performing so well. Who would have thought we would be see the 6th and 7th seed being Calgary and Nashville...????

This is kind of game the Flames need to be playing every night especially with Turek in goal. I hope the Flames can find consistency. I hate this on again off again crap.

The Flames need to play this way every night, regardless of who's in goal. Turek faced 23 shots last night, which is roughly the number of shots the team gave up in the games that made Kiprusoff and McLennan look like heroes. Kipper and Noodles have flourished on the Flames this season because the team has usually limited the shots against; if they can do the same with Turek in net, Roman should have at least as much success. Or do you truly believe McLennan is a better goalie than Turek (contract notwithstanding)?

That's where the comparison ends.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/Statistics.asp...n=&type=goalie

McLennan: 2.04/.916
Kiprusoff: 1.48/.941

The defensive system is working at restricting the number of shots, but one goalie is much more effective at allowing fewer pucks to cross the line.

Yes, I know Kiprusoff has better stats than McLennan. No one is trying to say that McLennan is better than Kipper, but both have better stats than you would have predicted at the start of the season.
