He still has the chance though, and the situation in Toronto is looking even worse than last year. Its frustrating for fans when a player like Sundin has a NTC, because he has stated he has no interest in leaving the team, yet trading him would be the best thing for the franchise. It's hard for me because I love Sundin as a captain; he's a great player and a class act.

Is Sundin's loyalty to the fans, the city of Toronto, or the Maple Leafs franchise? The answer to this question becomes increasingly unclear to me.

that NTC won't mean bupkiss if we are still way out of the playoffs by mid February. we will ask him to waive it, he will accept. he goes to the highest bidder and the bids will be good because there is nobody of Sundin's ilk up to be had at the trade deadline.

A (good) 1st round pick and a top prospect should be the starting point.

If the leafs were to approach Sundin and ask him to waive it THERE IS NO WAY sundin would so no. He's a class act who understands all good things come to an end. Of course the GM would ask him where do you want to go and we'll get it done.

Something fans have NEVER considered is Sundin can ALWAYS come back in the summer as a UFA. Hell we could even do the same thing over again next year.

lol im a fan and ive considered that

I think Sundin could very well agree to a trade and then resign in the off-season. This is the best case scenario for all Leafs fans. However, the fact that I am not technically Sundin's brain in combination with the fact that I don't know how GM-Player negtiations actually occur, I do not know whether he will do this. The whole situation is dependant on how management approaches the situation; is it a flat-out demand that is basically a slap in the face to (arguably) the greatest Leaf of all time, or is it a reasonable request where the power is given to Mats to determine what happens (even if it is staying in Toronto). He might flat out take offence to the Leafs requesting his waiving of the NTC. Of the four players I mentioned, Sundin is the anomaly, because he is the one player (of those four) that the Leafs (should) owe their complete loyalty to. He has been a grade A captain for years, and management should definitely not try to 'force' him into waiving his NTC (see: Doug Weight).

You know what the best thing I absolutely would believe is?

If he was asked where he would like to go, he'd say anywhere that is the best deal for the team.

Stefan is about as much of an "E-Class" player as you can get. Bust.

also this:

if signing Wayne Gretzky couldn't buy any team a cup (LA, St Louis, New York) how is signing washed up guys like Jason Blake going to put us over the top?

would be good to draft a top 5 pick this year and have him has his rookie year at the 20th Anniversary of the Scott Thornton pick

maybe we can have a Scott Thornton appreciation night like we had with Domi; have a speech, make a big fuss, nice stuff...ya know?

The worst part for me was I was actually at that game. His damn speech went on FOREVER.

Doubt it. The topic is not stick worthy. It makes things a lot easier for reference sake though.

It's not a frown, just a grimace of indeciciveness.

Can anyone make me a tank avatar with pictures of Hedman and Filatov? Add a caption that says something clever.
