Hockey Rodent has a short Memory

I just read the Rat mans blog, What a waste of Bandwidth. Watching the Rangers were like having Molars extracted because they played a defensive system.

Play river Hockey boys like we did till 03-04. That was Horrible Hockey. I would rather watch a defensive game and my team win than play a sloppy, non checking 6-5 loss any day.

Hockey Rodent is a negative crab.

Oh my god. We're not the best team in the world. How horrible is the entire coaching and management team!?

ummm he never really mentions anything negative about the coaching staff and only said that he found the 05-06 team to be more exciting because they played a more open offensive style. Judging by the poll we took, I think most agree (for various other reasons as well I'd assume). I don't see the beef.

While I do agree he tends to be overly critical, he's usually not far off in his analysis.

Compare 03-04 to 07-08. What season do you prefer?

I wonder if it has anything to do with his boy Prucha's success in 05-06 and how much he's declined since then.

I wonder how much that has to do with the system?

I dont think he was complaining about anything. He does make a point that the team plays a much more boring game than they did in 05/06.

I actually like to read the rodent, he puts his bias for the rangers aside and puts forth some very good constructive criticism about the rangers. While a lot of us usually ride high during a winning streak and start predicting us to win the stanley cup and soon after when we go on a losing streak go into complete chaso, rodent always seems to have that moderate demeanor of not getting ahead of himself and pointing out concerns on the team and how he feels they can be fixed.

He said nothing whatsoever about 03-04. He was comparing the 05-06 season to this years squad and claiming the 05-06 season was more fun to watch. I can't disagree.

Simply looking at the goal differential, a case can be made that this years "more defensive sytem" is less effective than the style we played in the past 2 years.

In 05-06 the GF was 250, GA 211
In 06-07 the GF was 233, GA also 211
In 07-07 the GF was 205, the Ga 190.

That is interesting because the Goal differential was worse with the more defensive system, which shows how much offense is sacrificed for a few less goals against.

Why play a boring style when the more exciting style has worked and can be argued to be more effective? Just based on goal differential, the more offensive style is better than the more defensive style.

I dont know why we played more defensively last year, maybe Drury and Gomez signings had something to do with it, but Drury thrived in Buffalo's more offensive system and Gomez has proven he can put up the points either way.

If your personel dictates one thing, why go the opposite way? I think Hank is good enough so we can play a more offensively minded game.

All he cares about is the Czechs. This is the same guy who pounded the Rangers for passing up Marek Schwarz who is basically an ECHL goalie.

Actually if you recall the rangers were in the running for the jennings trophy that year. I believe they let in the 4th least goals allowed that year. I really do think the rangers with all the speed and grit they have now should go back to that hard forchecking game they had that year. I think Renney was too mesmerized by the devils trap in 05-06 that he wanted one for himself.

What I am saying to the Rat Dude is stop complaining. This is way better than the 7 years out of the playoffs.

I like Rodent, but I can rarely make it through an entire rant of his. he's too negative and dramatic sometimes.

The threads here are equally negative and far more dramatic. I think that's why we read and post.

Why, because we don't pencil Greg Moore into the lineup in every post?

I disagree that the 2005-2006 team was more fun to watch. Watching a team play in the second round is more fun than watching one get swept in the first. 2005-2006 sucked post-Olympics.

How easily people forget that.

Lundqvist got hurt. Jagr's production declined slightly as well, and it just contributed to a downward spiral.

After every Rangers game, I check out what Hockey Rodent has to say. Most of the time I do agree, but more than that I like how he lays it out. There is something to be said about the talent of writing so that people want to read you. Otherwise we could just read umpteen syndicated columns, and most of the time we would be reading the same thing each time.
When he talked about how we can't run and gun with quite a number of teams, I grudgingly had to admit he was right, even though I didn't like it. My idea of a Rangers team is stellar defense AND a shredding offense. I'm not living in '94, but also with some really great Rangers teams before the Cup winner.

I like his crotchety negativity, especially because he usually backs it up.
