While I agree with you that Holly had plenty of time to stop...the reality is players bump, check, hit, push, whatever, all the time from behind. While he did hit him a little too hard, it was not, as you said, a murderous hit. That's why I don't think it should have been a major. Our own guys have been hit every bit as hard on dozens of occasions this season without getting even a 2 minute call. I'm not opposed to a call being made, but I completely disagree with it being a major.

Especially in the 3rd period. Taking the game's outcome of the players hands.

I think they called it a major because of the time he had to think about it, see the player remained looking the other way and still hit him. The player who got it may have helped it by finding the boards, but it was a dumb dumb penalty to take.
Straka's ensuing penalty was equally dumb. You can't allow yourself to be in the position to get called for that. I thought it was a soft call, but Marty was stupid to give the refs the chance to call it.

Well I just got back from the game.

Was definitely jumping for joy when Drury scored alright. Nearly took out an Oiler fan with my fistpunch. Nice atmosphere for sure, was as good as I expected on HNIC.

But was that reffing awful or what? But to be fair I guess it was inconsistent on both sides. Unfortunately it cost us the go ahead goal, but probably got evened up with our tieing goal. Oh well lucky to get a point overall, and hope Shanahan and Straka are ok.

So Girardi and Roszival basically score all of our goals yet Straka is still manning the point on the PP

Yeah it was pretty terrible on both sides. This whole trip the reffing has been pretty atrocious.

Good game tonight. A few soft calls both ways, but I thought both teams played alright. Both goalies were on their games tonight. I'm kind of happy they scored to send it to OT, because I like the Rangers and happy they got a point. Hopefully we see more of you guys in the future.

Jagr was absolute trash tonight. Passing what was practically a breakaway to pass to a more guarded Straka. The lazy penalty. The lazy floating. The lazy standing still in the neutral zone. The lazy standing still in the offensive zone after you've turned the puck over.

His only defense is something I'm also extremely sick of. The guy gets hooked and held more than anyone I've ever seen, and 75% of it isn't called.... maybe because he doesn't flop to the ice like Horcoff did tonight. Whatever the reason, it's a total joke.

Don't forget to add "shooting like crap". The reason Jagr doesn't get anything with him when he gets hooked is, he's bigger and has better balance than most. And yes, it's ridiculous. You have to give him credit, because I don't think I've never seen Jagr take a dive. In fact, has Jagr ever fell? Three times perhaps. It's like it's added to the conventional rules that it's legal in hockey to hook and hold Jagr.

Karan, great picture. It's funny you posted this one. I was watching Avery and there's more to it than just making faces. Did you see the whole exchange?

The guy in the picture and his buddy behind him were yelling at Avery, who was just standing there for about a minute. Avery was saying stuff back to him and they looked like the had a healthy exchange.

As Avery looked away, two other fans came down who actually had those seats and I think an usher asked for their tickets and kicked out the guys who were giving Avery the business. Apparently they weren't sitting in the front row

Avery really wasn't paying attention to them at this point, but as they started walking up he looked over at them and started laughing. He went over and banged on the glass to get their attention and was rubbing his fingers together and kept pointing high in the upper level. I couldn't hear him but it was clear he was giving them stuff for not being able to afford the good seats.

I thought Jagr played well. He had a few good shots, one actually got past Garon and hit the post. He also helped set up the GTG at the end of the game. The guy he "tripped" took a dive, so I can't really blame him for that. I also think he made a pretty nice move on his SO attempt, but Garon was just on tonight. Great goaltending.

I was actually more frustrated with Gomez. He gave the puck away a few times and made some lackluster passes. He's great at carrying the puck into the offensive zone, but he seemed to give it away 75% of the time tonight. I don't know, maybe I am the only one who thinks that.

Yeah, he wasn't that great yesterday. Too many of those rushes that went nowhere like in the beginning of the year

Anyway, he wasn't really the problem last night. Far from it in fact
