Just curious but for example what would happen if Turco was traded to the East by Dallas? I know that's not happening but Theoreticly speaking, would he be out of the All-Star game then? he couldn't or shouldn't represent the West in that situation and I don't see the League bumping an all-star from the east team to make room for the ousted Turco.
so if an All-Star is traded to the opposing conference what happens then, sorry your out of luck try again next year?

Yes, it was Ozolinsh. I remember they forced him to play even though he requested the time off to get his stuff together..

Happened to Ozolinsh last year, he was traded the day before to Anaheim. He played as a Panther.

Ozo chose to play in the game but did not compete in the skills competition. The timing of that trade was really bad. He was traded RIGHT before the game which was in his HOME TOWN. If someone were traded a while before the game, I don't know what would happen.

He was fined for not showing up to the skills competition, basically cuz he was too depressed/surprised/shocked/whatever.

No, it was because he didn't want to represent the Panthers because they traded him to the Ducks. The words out of his mouth.

Which brings up an interesting point...if the whole world voted someone from the host team to start in the all star game...why the hell don't you wait until like 2 weeks after to trade him?

I don't think he was fined. Do you have any proof?

I agree. The timing of that trade was really bad. They could have just waited until after the game and everything would be fine. I think that is the 3rd time Ozo was traded during the year the game was in his hometown.

I think Ozo was fined last year... Ozolinsh played for the East, despite being traded to the West. But if I recall, he didn't wear the Panthers logo on his shoulder. He didn't wear any logo on his shoulder in fact...

If I recall correctly...

Bernie Nichols was traded from the Kings to the Rangers during the All Star break. I THINK he represented the Kings in that came, but I'm not completely sure.

Well, maybe the Jagr thing brought this thought into your mind...he IS an East conference reserve, and he did get traded, but the Rags are still an Eastern Conference team.

That Ozo situaton last year was f'd up. Atleast Jagr will be able to wear his new team's logo on his jersey in the game this year.

Wrong.

I just looked at my tape of the game, and he had a Ducks logo on the East jersey.

Yeah, as you write that, I remember watching last year and saying his jersey is inconsistent. Duck logo, on Eastern conference jersey.

Nice find

I don't have any proof, but I recall hearing that he was fined, too.

Nice to know I wasn't imagining things...thanks for the backup. I knew it had happened last year, but I couldn't for the life of me remember who it was. Good on you to jog the brain on this.

Ozo was fined, but the reason he did not want to play was he was afraid he'd get booed by the Panthers' fans. That's a quote directly from Sandis. But instead of gettin booed, he got a resounding standing ovation from the hometeam fans. In fact, a local deejay, who would host in game ceremonies, got fired for publicly criticizing the trade on the radio the day after it was announced. And why they don't wait to announce the trade is in case of injury. There'd have been no trade if Ozo got injured (and lookin back, that might have been a good thing for ther Cats instead of Cullen and Trnka)
