Proposal: Bring back Bobby Holik?

I'm sure he could be easy to obtain

He could be a decent center, good face-off man and PKing forward

To NYR:
Bobby Holik

To Atlanta:
Hollweg
2nd

Change the pick to anything lower than a 4th rounder and they have a deal.

I Like it, but we could probably get him for 3rd or 4th pick

I DO agree that we need a big physical forward to play better against the better teams. Holik not my first choice thats for sure, but we need somebody...

It's not a terrible idea, but I don't think he'd fit under the cap.

I'm 99% sure the salary cap would have something to say about this

So who would Holik be an upgrade over? Gomez is consistently producing. Drury is playing a 2-way game and chipping in clutch goals. Dubinsky is playing very well, but is hampered by linemates who can't finish. Betts is doing everything a 4th line center should do.

Regarding Hollweg + pick for B Holik

It would cost about 1.875.000 of cap space if done today.
There is in theory about 2.900.000 left today - if all salary bonuses were to be moved to next year (not optimal by any means)
So it is possible.
But it is definitely not the way I would want to spend the "remaining" cap space available.
There are better options for far less money. I would do something small now (for Hollweg/Korpedo/Skokan/Immo???) - also bring up a player or two from Hartford (Dawes, Baranka, AA, Hutch, Moore, Paranteau /waivers???/ are the first options to mind) and try to pull 1-2 major deals near the deadline if they do not mean a total sellout of talent/pics. Probably packaging 2-4 players (Prucha, Hossa, Cally, Malik, Mara, Hollweg?) and some prospects and higher pics for 2 real needs on the team. A top defender + a sniper. Add the grit now!
One can only ponder if this is at all possible with the players/chips we have available (without sacrificing too much today and/or tommorrow), but stranger things have happened. Only time will tell.

My brother lives in Atlanta and says Holik is the biggest waste of a player, ice, roster, and leadership the Thrashers have. "Worse than Mellanby" he said, who I didn't realize was so bad. Apparently had a reputation for taking costly stupid penalties near the end of games. And he's even playing as their 3rd line checking center to boot. Anyways, with that ringing endorsement, no thanks!

Someone please delete this thread so I don't have to see the phrase "Bring Back Holik" anywhere, ever. I have been trying to forget that mistake for the past 4 years.

Deep sea fishing at his house? Is he living on a boat?

Why should we do this?

Still overpaid, and hasn't gotten better since we lit his line up in the playoffs last year.

I'd rather overpay in a deal for Draper, or bring Peca to NY.

Let us not forget Holik scoring two goals against the caps on the last day of the regular season in 2004 to get us a win that screwed us out of a the Lottery pick that year, **** HOLIK that smushed face *******.
