And by how do you measure this exactly? I don't disagree with this necessarily (I don't listen to metal enough... only the interesting genres and bands), but I know that Finland has not produced a band that equals Opeth for me personally. Another band that Finland has no real answer to (in a pretty different subgenre of metal, though) in my opinion is Cult of Luna.
Also, Sweden seemingly beats Finland hands down when it comes to "kikkelimetalli"
If I listened to ****, I'd much rather listen to firm ****, like Kalmah instead of diarrhoa like Opeth.

Anyway, nice list with a lot of good stuff. My personal favourites among Finnish bands are:
Nightwish, Turisas, Lordi, Stratovarius, Ensiferum, Korpiklaani and Apocalyptica. Though there might be others I have just not identified as Finnish yet, since most of the time I don't care where the music comes from as long as I like it.
Although I have noticed that, most bands I really like are from Finland, Sweden or Germany (Most of our music sucks, but when it comes to Metal we have some decent bands here).

I'm trying to learn a little back history about the genre! Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!

I think it has something to do with the dark, gray and cold enviroment. The overall mood of a lot of Finnish men isn't really that happy an joyfull (without alcohol) and we also have a history of melancholia in our songs. Anyway someone could tell you more in detail...
You guys have any chill out alt. rock like our 311, Red Hot Chili Peppers and to a lesser extent Bush? Something smooth and mainstream?
