man, I'm getting choked up already just reading these posts

if leetch starts getting emotional up there, I'm gonna lose it. Mostly cause leetch is usually so calm and collected. at least i expected it from messier.

If any player deserves to have their number retired by this organization its leetch.

I may not be a Ranger fan, but I want to contribute, if that's O.K.:

The year I started getting into the game of hockey, late-1991-early 1992, happened to coincide with Leetch's 100+ point season, which to this day is the last time a D-Man had that many points. Pretty damn impressive.

After Buffalo got knocked out in the playoffs in 94, I pulled for the Rangers to win (I knew about the curse and always felt bad for them- I wanted them to end the jinx), and what a show #2 put on.

As an avid hockey card collector, I can claim that I own about 100 Leetch cards, including about 30 from that 100+ point 1991-92 season.

End of an era is a great way to put it. Maybe now that there is some closure we can move on. We're 14 years removed from 94.

Amen.

This should be our last 'party' until 2014 for the reunion

Unless of course we figure out how to win another Cup one of these years....

Ive been waiting for this night for awhile. (those player profiles of leetch on msg didn't help either) I thought it may never come. Leetch was amazing, and its cool to see him join messier and richter. Can never say enough great stuff about him. I remember beating the devils in the 94 playoffs and watching him play for USA in the olympics. I remember the day he was traded away, couldnt believe it. and I remeber when he returned with boston and everytime on the ice, people cheered. Thats what I love about the rangers, how they respect their players.
I have a feeling its going to be a lot like the messier jersey raising one, but hopefully they dont let in as many goals.

That picture of Leetch and his son in Boston is great, by the way.

And yeah, I agree too. This should be the last "official" moment of the 1994 era. Richter night was great, Messier night was great and this will be too.

Leetch was all class, skill and leadership. Its a shame he was ever moved out of NY, but he will get his due in MSG now.

A most deserving player.

Just got back from the game. Tonight was one of those moments where I will look back in 20 years and really appreciate the fact that I was there. Really memorable time.

Did you ever have a player on a team you played on that you could just look to for a big play under pressure?
That's how I felt about Leetch. You just knew he'd be there to make the play for you.

And that spin-o-rama goal must rank as one of the greatest NHL goals ever....as an individual goal, it's amazing. Then place it in context, in that series at that point, under that kind of pressure?! Are you kidding me?!!!

Life is all timing kid

I had just missed Giacomin and the Gagline, in the 80's that was a big deal to me considering the players we had when i was growing up.

Great defenceman very deserving of all the praise and having his number raised. I watched clips from the ceremony, very classy.

Got me thinking of Zubov.

Imagine if he stayed a Ranger throughout his career. I think its very possible we could be retiring #21 if that trade never happend

Hey guys!

Great ceremony last night for a great man! As an Islander fan it was always painful to watch Leetch kill the Isles, but you have to respect what he brought to the sport. He is a great man, and was that way both on and off the ice.

He was/is one of my favorites, I always wanted something signed by him, but refused it on anything Ranger related, so needless to say I was thrilled when he ended up with Boston. I know you guys hated it, but I was finally able to get something signed by him. A Boston Bruins puck!

Again, hats off to the Rangers for a classy tribute to a classy guy!
