About Koistinen

I see Koistinen being quite high in the Rookie Plus-Minus Stats and actually didn't even realize before it he's actually getting playing time up in Nashville. That's why I'd be really eager to know how he's been playing in all this year for you? Has he transformed well into the American game, and what would think his projections might be? This guy is someone who has been totally riding off the radar, and his hearty play at the World Champs last year just totally won me over. Would like to hope the Preds the best in raising him to be a solid contributor.

He'll be lucky to stay in the NHL.

Koistinen has been pretty terrible for us. His "offensive" play shouldn't warrant his time on the ice. His skating is pretty bad and he gets beat to the puck too much.

He looked brutal in a preseason game I saw this year, but he played decent yesterday I thought.

I thought he looked great in the AHL and WHC games that I saw him in, I'm surprised to hear he's played this poorly in the NHL so far.

He will go the way of Mikko Lehtonen before January expires.

He isnt bad, he just doesnt fit the Preds. Hamhuis, Suter, and Weber are a hard act to follow when you are breaking in to a team like this.

His skating is far from terrible. In fact he is one of the best backward skaters I have ever seen. He is slow as molasses (Sp?) skating forward and that gets him in trouble occasionally when he gets out of posistion but overall he has been solid when he's in there for the most part. He's defiently better than Mikko Lehtohten. In the right role he could be a pretty good defenseman. Don't think he is gonna get that oppurtunity with us however.

You should see Kevin Klein skate then.

I wish Klein would get the nod.

It sounds pretty odd that a player that leads the team in +/- has been terrible.
http://predators.nhl.com/team/app?ga...ce=page&srt=pm

However, if he is no more needed and follows Mikko Lehtonen´s path back to Europe, I wish Ilves is awake and makes all the efforts required to get him back.

True. Because many of us are not able to see him live regurlarly, statistics may be misleading. I have not seen any game from him, so I must rely on reports etc. and therefore have thought that he has played ok in his role as a 7th defender. It looks like that impression has not been true.

But still - 14 goals for and only 6 against while on ice is bad for a Dman that gets the only ~10 min ice time per game? Koistinen´s GFON/60 is the best in the team (http://www.behindthenet.ca/2007/basi...ntoi=&team=NSH), so he must be lucky to jump into the rink in the right moment or something.

He hasn't been that bad, but he hasn't been that good. He is fine as a 6/7 guy in this league at this point. If he could get things going offensively, I think he could find a niche for 3-5 years as a PP guy with okay defensive abilities.

And with Weber and Suter out, Koistinen has his best game of the year.

He had one really bad defensive play which almost cost us the game, but other then that he was great offensively and defensively.

1 goal, 2 assists, 7 shots on goal, and almost 22 minutes of ice time.

Great patience on the game winning goal.

The team looked like they were really happy for him to pickup that goal (well and that they scored a go ahead goal with the game almost over ).

Honestly, I've thought that Ville has been our best player in the last two games. He really seems to be coming into his own and showing us what all the posters from Europe have told us he can be. He has been physical both along the boards and in open ice, reads the play well and chooses his spots to jump into the rush wisely, appears poised and confident with the puck on the PP and at even-strength, and has truly looked comfortable with the increased ice time and responsibilities he is getting with Weber and now Suter injured.

Triva question: Who had the lesser grasp on the English language in the post-game interview, Willy or Ville?

Ans: I'd have to give the edge to Willy just out of spite. How can you ask the garbled, run-on, question within a question, side-bar, cliche-riddled questions that he asked to Ville and expect an answer? Wait, was my question just worse than his? Anyway, if you know a player's english is limited then use one or more of the following 10 questions:

1. Can you tell us about your game winning goal?
2. Do you like getting more ice time?
3. Was this a big win?
4. Are you happy?
5. Can I get you a beer?
6. Would you like to go home with that fat lady right there?
7. Can you teach Zids how to keep the puck in at the blue line?
8. Did you know Barry Trotz says you have fresh legs?
9. Do you like playing with [insert player name]?
10. Do you like Nashville?

I was at the post-game show and Ville was very nervous, as you could tell by his voice. He actually smiled several times when Willy reworded his questions to simplify them, but overall he was just happy to be there and had a real big smile on his face when the crowd gave him an ovation both when he arrived and after his interview. He actually signed a lot of autographs tonight. Usually they limit the line to 10 pre-selected kids, but tonight the line was about 50 people long and Ville stood there the whole time signing and smiling. A big night for him I'm sure.

Great to hear... I just felt bad listening on the radio as he was tortured by some meandering Willy questions on what was otherwise a pretty nice night for him.

The City Paper report, which was picked up by AP says that Trotz has consistently called Koistenen his best defenseman or words to that effect.

I don't recall Trotz ever saying that and have a very, very hard time believing it. Am I missing something?

You guys are right about Willie's interview with Ville. That was awkward radio. the best part was that even after Willie knew that Ville wasn't working with a full English dictionary, he continued to ask vague, meandering questions. typical willie though. good guy but he's not really going to add a lot to a broadcast. He's the Vern Fiddler of radio personalities. he performs admirably when asked to play key roles but always leaves you wishing you had more talent at his position.
