If we could swing a deal for Kaberle that we could fit under the cap, I would do it. Carter, Kukkonen, and a 1st for Kaberle? Does it work cap-wise?

God, that's WAAAAAY too rich for my blood. I like Kaberle a lot, but not at that price. I don't even care if Kukkonen is inexplicably in Stevens' doghouse or not.

Maybe Carter is just being overshadowed by Richards. I know it is hard to get a grasp on other team's young players so I understand some of the incredulous Leaf fans, but Jeff's got multiple 40 goal seasons in him. That isn't me overrating him. That's simply the truth. He had over 20 goals his rookie year getting like 10 minutes a night. At 23, he's on pace for a 30-35 goal season and still doesn't get top minutes. Guys like him - RFA or not - bring a helluva lot of value. Mercury, that doesn't excuse you however, you get to watch him night in and night out.

San Jose would be a good team to trade to, and we could get more from them if we traded Sundin at the same time, if they were interested.

I'd consider Carter, Parent and a 2nd for Kaberle.

Kaberle himself is going to cost a king's ransom after seeing what teams were willing to give up for Rivet, Tkachuk, Weight, and Bertuzzi last season. I don't honestly think a team would be willing to mortgage their entire future for Sundin and Kaberle.

Going to be tough to do without Philadelphia's second round pick, seeing as how they traded it away last draft.

My take: The Flyers can't afford Kaberle's contract as long as Hartnell, Briere, Richards, Gagne, and Timonen are on the books.

My bad

Well they could make it a first and send us pack a contract and we can add in a B level prospect.

He's playing great right now. It could be a terrible move down the line. Carter, Parent, and a 2nd is a large overpayment. I also don't know what the deal with Stevens and Kukkonen, and I think he is at least as talented as Jones. Jones, for whatever reason, is putting up a fair amount of points this season, and I doubt he goes anywhere. If Carter's pace continues, and he ends the season with 30+ goals, he may well want $4 million+ and it will be very hard. Still, I am ambivalent. Carter is looking more and more like a legitimate top 6 forward. At the same time, that makes his trade value rise. The RFA situation makes everything weird.

I agree that Carter and a first wouldn't get it done but I think alot of Leafs fans think they can get the world for Kaberle. Don't kid yourselves about Kabby's value. He is one of the better dmen in the league but a lot Leafs fans think he is at Pronger/Lidstrom/Niedermayer level. Pronger got the Oilers Lupul, Smid, 1st rd pick....what makes you think the Leafs can get more for Kaberle. Carter and a 1st and another prospect is a fair deal imo. I would take Carter out of the deal and try to pry Giroux and Parent out of the Flyers.

Obviously a deal in favor of the Flyers, though the Flyers would probably not be able to do it (or at least it would put them so close to the cap they would not be able to resign other assets).

This thread symbolizes the Leafs as a whole. Half the fan base likes the trade, the other doesn't. (Not trying the bash the Leaf fanbase here) Kind of like Leafs management, they don't know what direction to go.

As for this trade, I would wait to the deadline day to see what else Homer does because I would like us to get a 2nd round pick and move up in the draft with that.

Looks like one of my proposals actually almost happened to bad Kaberle wouldn't waive his no trade.

Sometimes, the general perception isn't the right one. Well done. I thought your deal was good, maybe leans a little to the Flyers, but pretty fair overall.

Just for fun Bump.

Wow can't believe all the leaf fans that hated this proposal a year ago. A year later and most Leafs fans are crying it never happened.

Gotta look at the Cap too.
I bet all of you Leaf fans wish you could take this deal now don't you. Most Philly fans were against dealing Carter for Kabs even if it were YOU sending us the pick.
