Quote:
"I thought each line went out and played with a purpose, and I liked how we maintained a level of commitment to the little things and to the work habits that are so important to a winning game plan," said Renney, after the Rangers defeated Montreal 4-1 at Madison Square Garden. "And I really liked our bench and the support that everybody gave each other. We competed hard, and we wanted it badly."
Quote:
All of those things, along with solid goaltending by Henrik Lundqvist, strong all-around play and leadership by Chris Drury, clutch offensive contributions from third-liners Nigel Dawes and Petr Prucha, and a terrific penalty kill, helped the Rangers snap their longest winless skid (0-4-1) of 2007-08.
Quote:
"It felt good to finally get a win and finally get rewarded," said Lundqvist, who turned aside 18 shots in helping the Rangers to their first victory since Dec. 30.

The Rangers controlled play in all areas of the ice, and put forth a complete 60-minute team effort on Saturday. They outshot Montreal 41-19 in the game, and allowed a paltry nine shots at even-strength.

And despite allowing 10shots on eight Montreal power plays, the Rangers' penalty kill was outstanding, killing off a pair of two-man disadvantages in the second period. In all, the Rangers limited the league's top power play one goal in those eight opportunities.
Quote:
The one downside to the Rangers terrific shorthanded work was that the club was once again whistled for too many penalties. Saturday marked the second game in a row that the Blueshirts have faced not just one, but two, 5-on-3s. And the Blueshirts have now been shorthanded 31 times in its last five matches.

"We can't keep doing that," said Renney. "If we spend time in the penalty box we're not going to get this done like we want to. What it does is keep a guy like Jaromir (Jagr) off of the ice, and we can't afford that. When we are in the penalty box, it's really tough to get him out there."

Scott Gomez, the club's leading scorer (10-31-41) and lone All-Star representative, agreed with his coach.

"We're playing with fire when we take that many penalties," stated Gomez. "We did a great job (Saturday) night, but we can't keep putting ourselves in those situations or else we will get burned."

And certainly if the Rangers parade to the penalty box tonight, Sidney Crosby and his talented teammates will take full advantage.

That's a great picture of Gomez. Kimmo Timonen looks bizarrely old in it, too.

That one is a toss. If we win w/o Shanahan again he should be playing on Dubi line after return. If he plays, we loose, although we can loose w/o Shanny.

I think Renney will keep the "D" pairings from Saturday.

Dude, you can't even get the Rangers' record right? You have 21-17-5 when they're actually 21-19-5.

Also, why keep Moore in a static position on the RW of the 2nd line? If Shanahan comes back, Moore isn't going to play. There isn't really a way to "project" line combinations for tonight, especially in that we're not even sure who's playing yet.

We seem to pick it up against the Pens so far this year, and tonight better not be any different!

Rangers look to contine good play against Sidney Crosby and Penguins?

Since when does winning one game after a five game losing streak count as good play?

I don't have a good feeling about tonight. But I won't have a good feeling until this team puts a good couple of weeks together. Hopefully we pull one out.

I'm glad you took the time to point out two minor flaws in what is otherwise an great looking GDT. I suggest you try to relax a bit and appreciate the time it took for Bruno to put this together.

Also, big game tonight. This team needs to start stringing together victories and playing up to its capabilities for extended periods of time. Let's hope Saturday was the beginning of one of these periods.

When you're the best player in the league at the age he is, he deserves all the attention he gets. No beef here.

I'm feeling a 2-2 or 1-1 shootout game.

Straka with the goal.

Maybe Moore if he's in and it is a 2-2 game.

I'd really be happy if the penalty parade was halted tonight. Saturday was just awful in that aspect, so I wouldn't be too downtrodden (I can't believe that word came out from my keyboard; I never use those kinds of words, I swear) if we don't have a ton of penalties.

Keep that consistent (good) play coming, and there's a shot they might win this. I'll be watching -- if I can keep myself from flipping back and forth between a bunch of other things.

GO RANGERS.
