Francis scored a long shot outside the blueline.

I always felt the series was over once Graves slashed Mario and broke his wrist. Shouldve been the opposite but I knew we wouldnt win after that, even though the Pens had no Mario.

I believe that was my first full season as a Rangers fan. I only vaguely remember that season. Actually, the sharpest memory was losing that series. My friend, who was 20 at the time, was a long time fan and felt that that was the year the curse was ending. Man was he pissed off.

you were in pittsburgh?????

Anyway, one of the few things rarely spoken about this series was Messier's defensive play. He was always on the perimeter, and he made a ton of lazy passes. I wanted to see the Messier of the 1988 playoffs, but instead he was more like Pat Lafontaine. Very painful series. The low point for me as a Rangers fan, even including the following season. And watch how weak Patrick was. So glad he was traded.

That series was one of my very first Ranger memories. Was Randy Gilhen on the squad?
