Best hockey of the season?

Are we capable right now of playing our best hockey of the season? I think so, and here are some reasons why:

-Leclaire has the chip back on his shoulder after the all star snubbing.

-Modin is back.

-We are healthier now than we have been all season.

-Vyborny has shown signs of awakening.

-Brassard is finally here and should be frothing at the mouth to make a mark.

-Methot is very hungry and doesn't want to go back down to Syracuse.

-Zherdev has matured and is the alternate star we have needed on this team.

I'm optimistic that we can surge now, even with the road intensive January schedule we are in. There is no reason we can't repeat the success we had in October and jump back into the 6th or 7th spot in the West.

Yep. For all the reasons stated.

Will we?

I'm optimistic we will. Health is key, and were finally getting everyone back. Finally beating Nashville was huge IMO. 5 in a row at home, time to start having success on the road and everything should fall into place nicely.

No doubt, brother gets an 'A' the minute there's one available IMO.

Being a great player doesn't necessarily make a great captain. I think Zherdev is doing completely fine as is. There is no reason to stick an 'A' on him at this point or possibly ever. The expectations of leadership can weigh heavily on people. An 'A' is not as pressured as the 'C' but Vincent LeCavalier and Patrick Elias are 2 who performed better without the pressure.

I do agree that the stars are aligned, we have several new players and some old ones returning. I'm not very confident that Modin is going to do much in the short term but at least he is back and earning some of that big contract.

The key to the last two wins was more than the player names though, it was mostly due to those players playing hard, not quitting and knowing the only way they can win is by hard work and toughness.

I hope they keep that mental and physical edge, they must finish their checks and play with a chip on their shoulder to win. If they do that we are looking at a winning streak and possibly a chance to make the playoffs.

I think part of the hope is that Nash's line can get more puck possession in the opposistion zone. Nashes line spends too much time in their own zone for my taste. Leads to a lot of "wasted" shifts.

They had some nice chemistry earlier in the season and were able to get some good cycling action going on.

That alone would a major help.

Its possible, but dont forget our recent road trip.....we have lots more of those to go. If we play on the road like we play at home...absolutely!

The one thing we have going for us is that we always play our best hockey during the last 1/2 of the season when it doesn't really matter. Now we are in a position where it does matter. if i remember correctly, we had one of the top 5 records in the league during the last 1/2 or 1/3 of the season last year.

And I just realized this today, but the Jackets are the 3rd best home team this year, behind Detroit and Anaheim. If we can just be a little bit better on the road for a couple key stretches, I think we'll be in good shape.

and....
-Chim just broke out of his slump.
-Footer has never played better for us
-Lindstrom seems to be coming on.
-Glencross will soon be back

Excuses are over.

If we can't get it going before the allstar break, it ain't gonna go.

It's the problem we have, we can do much better at home where we can change lines after our opponent to get our defensive strategy more effective. We should create something more to our bag of tricks when playing away, otherwise a little bit better will be a very tough task to do.

A little confidence and a little momentum would do this team a world of good. If they can play hard enough and smart enough for juuuuuust long enough to get a little confidence and mo' ...

Eh, I want a win today ... I'll worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.

I've been saying it all along. Post Xmas is our bread and butter.
We have a hell of a shot at squeaking in this season.

Even if we do not make it, I, for one, will be extremely pleased at the strides this team has made over the last 2 years, and will be patient, if necessary, to see what happens with Foote-Feds and the contracts and all that.
