The Rangers don't have a player who can bring you out of your seat..., that young superstar player. That's glaring to me.

Jagr is old, he's done.

ATL-Kovalchuk
PIT- Malkin,Crosby
ANH-Getzlaf
WASH-Ovechkin
BUF-Vanek
EDM-Hesmky
LA-Kopitar
Colombus-Zherdev,Nash

etc, etc , etc

It can be Cherepanov, but we're going to have to wait for him to come over.

In time

Whoops, didn't see the edit, but I do think that Cherepanov and Sanguinetti can both be impact players in the NHL in a couple of years

You're nuts. He's got potential to be good. He's not a star. What would make you even think that is beyond me.

Personally I think this team is more than just "one player away." We need a legit 2nd line and at least one or two good defensemen before we can even utter the words contender.

This team folds under pressure. Ya know, the Rodent always talks about the 3 man forecheck, but look at it. Every time a team is aggressive with the Rangers, they fold. Just like last night.

I'm really starting to think that this team won't go further than the 1st round or if they're lucky 2nd. I hope that Sather isn't too blind to see this and doesn't go and trade some of our young players away. Dawes, Callahan, Prucha, Dubinsky, Moore, etc. should not be touched right now. Next season these guys are going to have important roles on this team, I don't want to see them touched out of some dumb desperation move.

I think the best idea is to let Jagr, Shanny, Straka, Malik, and Mara all go after this season or trade them this season if you can. Resign Avery, and see if there's anything better than Rozsival otherwise sign him.

There are a lot of good UFA's out there. Get a mid-range player who's still pretty young to come in. A younger Straka kind of player, to fill in until one of the younger guys steps up. The team can't afford to pay someone else 7 million.

IMO, Drury is not the kind of player who we can use on this team to set up the sniper like Shanahan. To me he's more of your 2nd line player who's going to put up a decent amount of goals and assists, but not enough. I would hope that Avery can turn more into a playmaker, but IDK it seems that he's more interested in starting crap than playing good hockey. To me he's more of a 3rd liner than a 2nd liner. That's why I say we need someone who can make plays on the 2nd line. Anyone who thought Drury would be that guy is just as disillusioned as those who thought Cullen would be that guy.

Here's the UFA list:

Right now we might be one player away from making the playoffs but not one player away from being Stanley Cup contenders.

Hope we don't make a short-sighted trade just to have a better shot to make the playoffs.

I've always disliked Sather, but I commend him for not doing anything foolish (like Nashville's trade for Forsberg) at the trade deadline last year.

Well, there's exactly 6 weeks before the Trade Deadline. Will Sather wait til then or pull off a trade earlier? Who knows? However, also a lot can change between now and then. I think Sather wants to see how the team reacts after the All-Star break before he makes a move.

If the team can't recover by early February I think they should go into sell mode.

This is what I think too, and is why I'm not opposed to trading Jagr. He might bring us to the playoffs, but we we'll lose in the first round playing defense like this, guaranteed. Who the hell wants to watch that

I know Jagr doesn't want to leave, but we need a legitimate defenseman right now and he's the only one capable of bringing back such a return.

Insert Cherepanov NOW!. All he has to do is give his 2 weeks and thats it, just like Malkin did. Dawes is the real deal!

I wouldn't quite say that Dawes is the real deal. I'd say he'll be a 2nd liner if he reaches his full potential. I don't see the talent to be a first liner in the NHL.

AFAIK Gomez & Cherepanov are the future first liners of this team. They need just one more piece to make a sick line. If by some magic Jagr reaches his goals, then I can see Cherepanov - Gomez - Jagr. How sick would that be?

I wonder how much he makes for doing nothing, though. What a tough job he has.

I can almost Guarantee you will n ot see Jagr and Cherepanov together for any consistent time. Jagr is winding down on his career. Go get me Zherdev and play me Zherdev-Gomez-Cherepanov...OR BETTER YET..

Zherdev-Anisimov-Cherepanov

Tyutin-Insert Russian UFA signing

and give me the 5-man russian unit, ala the wings years ago. QUITE HONESTLY, IT LOOKS LIKE THIS TEAM IS BUILDING AROUND RUSSIANS...ANISIMOV,CHEREPANOV

no it won't! what makes people think when avery and shanny come back every thing will be fine! when everyone was healthy they were still playing bad hockey, losing games and not scoring! there's a reason they're last in scoring! enough of these "wait for so and so to come back" as i said last night is that gonna be the excuse when we DON'T make the playoffs? oh injuries
