I have just learned that Michael Nylander is on his way to Cleveland for surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff. The severity of the injury is so bad that Nylander could no longer play through the pain.
Makes not signing him look better and better if this is true. That injury could plague him the rest of his career.

not sure...

if the people who clamored for him to be signed would stop because of this. I assume he sustained that injury in Washington and it's tough to guarantee such an injury would have occurred in NY. The argument not to sign a 35 year old centerman for five years is the best argument for not signing him to a contract. Signing him would've been short-sighted to appease Jagr, who also may not be the same person in a couple years, and there's not guarantee he'll be a Ranger.

Bad luck for Nylander and the Caps if this is true. He was fairly injury-free as a Ranger, missing only 4 games over 2 seasons.

I think he has been farily durable during his NHL career.

Nylander has been somewhat durable...

though he's missed big chunks of 2-3 seasons - I seem to recall a broken leg at one time in his career.

Yeah me too, I think it was while he was still on Chicago if I'm not mistaken. I remember seeing him once on the iron man list of consecutive games then I think thats when he broke his leg.

I heard about this before on XM, sucks for sure. Hopefully he can be back soon, but from what I heard it doesn't appear to be a injury that allows for a quick bounce back.

Tough break for Michaeal Nylander. I appreciated what he brought to the Rangers, but it was the right decision not to give him four or even five years for a new free agent contract. At his age and given the unknown at exactly where the Rangers might be even three years from now, it was too much of a risk.

This injury wouldn't have reinforced my belief on this. Yes, he would've still been a benefit to help Jaromir Jagr out, but I'd rather have Scott Gomez and Chris Drury on this team than just solely Nylander. Needs needed to be addressed and even though expensive, it has been worth it.

+1

Nylander was terrific for us in his 2 years here. Sorry to hear about his injury.

He had class, even through all the crap thrown his way. Sorry he's hurt, it will be a tough injury to bounce back from in a short time period.

What? What looks better? Its not like he was keeping this thing a secret. he got hurt a month ago. So if the Rangers signed him he still would be hurt?
