They will likely force us to buy the tickets anyway... Such an honor and a privileged to be a Rangers season ticketholder. I wonder if next year they will send out free sticks so we can shove um up our A@$%@.

CSKA will make top finnish and swedish team looks amateuresque as well.

What are the chances of picking up a ticket for a couple of these games in Europe, possibly without much notice? TIA

Switzerland doesn't have a culture of ticket touts like you have in UK or US. Ranger tickets in Bern will be gold dust...

If Jagr doesn't stay this will be a disaster.

Well at least we'll still hopefully have Prucha and possibly Rozsival...

Toronto from 1994 or TO from 2008 ?? The best thing for the sport is for NHL teams to play foreign clubs. Just bringing the NHL over to Europe is not the answer.

I disagree. Ice hockey is big in the Czhech republic. The event could stand up on its own merit.

Rangers Opening 08-09 season In Czech Republic

http://www.tsn.ca/tsn_talent/columnists/bob_mckenzie/

It will open up w/ 2 games vs Tampa Bay. Couldn't the NHL get a better matchup or Rivalry going. Something like Washington (who has Russian Players), Atlanta or another decent team w/ Euros.

the other teams in Europe will be Ottawa vs Pittsburgh. Should be a great matchup.

Rangers will play in the Victoria Cup in Switz for preseason.

Ottawa will Play in the SEL. Why couldn't the Rangers w/ Lundy play there. Again I think NHL messed up again. I know Ottawa has Alfie but couldn't there be a way to do this.

At least they should have Ottawa vs the Rangers playing in Stokholm to have the two big Sweedish stars battle it out. I would rather the NHL have done a round robin type of thing.

If they wanted to do 2 games have:

Pitt - Ott @ Stockholm
NYR - TB @ Prague

day 2
NYR - Ott @ Stockholm
Pitt-TB - @ Prague

just so the countries could see more than two teams. I don't think that travel would have been too bad.

Frölunda - Rangers, wow I can only imagine what kind of response Lundqvist would get, he is huge here in Sweden... that game would be a game I would go to, though I can't stand Frölunda but ffs, the Rangers... I can't get a chance like this often if it happends.

I have every intention on going to this somehow. Once in a lifetime experience I think. Can any of our Czech friends keep us updated on ticket availability and what not?

"The Rangers, meawhile, will also play some exhibition hockey before opening the season in Prague, including a game Oct. 1 against European club champion Metallurg Magnitogorsk (Russia) in the first-ever Victoria Cup in Bern, Switzerland. The IIHF announced plans for the Victoria Cup last year, in what it hopes is an annual affair between an NHL team and the European club champion.

New York will also play SC Bern on Sept. 30."

many players at the allstar game media gig yesterday stated they would like to play euro teams as part of the preseason instead of the same nhl clubs.

It's cool to get those four teams over there to play. great way to promote the game. But, do you guys really see the need for the exhibition game? I think that doesn't make sense. Why risk injury?

why play any preseason games then? stop whining. every game they play is an injury risk. every practice is an injury risk. can't live life like that.

I am not whining. My point is that they play enough exhibtion games and I bet most players would think the same thing. I guess that would be their last preason game before the season begins. But, it s against competition other than an NHL team, that's the difference for me. This is more of a PR thing, than anything else. I love the fact that the four teams get to play regualr season games there, but the exhibition against a non nhl opponent is pointless, IMO.

no. playing the same damn nhl teams in friendlies is pointless. I've always wanted the Rangers to play euro clubs as part of the preseason than just the same old nhl teams that we see all season anyway.

Two questions:

1. Even though it is a "friendly", do the Rangers dress their A-team so as to avoid potential "embarrassment"? On the same note, if the Rangers were to lose to Metallurg, should it be considered an embarrassment?

2. Czech posters; will you please keep us updated on ticket information. I really, really want to be in attendance for some of these games.

good question indeed. Do the Rangers go with an A team or a B team...... I say go with an A team and win that Victoria Cup!
