Buffalo/Rangers Proposal

To BUF: Chris Drury

To NYR: Brian Campbell

Before you laugh too hard...hear me out. Buffalo has the cap room (if they choose to use it), Drury is (in some opinions) underperforming, Buffalo is in dire need of leadership, NY could use an all-star on the blue line for the playoffs and Buffalo and Campbell have broken off talks on a contract extension.

The questions remain: Does Drury want to return to Buffalo? Are the Rangers willing to part with him so early in a long term deal? Is the value equal? If the answers are yes, this might not be that outlandish a trade. Thoughts?

Uh. Instead of looking at Salaries, try looking at other things.

First off Campbell sucks.

Second off Campbell's cap hit would be similar to Drurys (6-6,5)

He doesn't even compare to what Drury brings to our team. NOT EVEN CLOSE.

No way. Our D will be just fine thanks!

also keep in mind drury has a no movement clause...and was offered comparable money by buffalo but said no because he wanted to be a ranger.

Pass....the Rangers don't need a defenseman like Campbell, especially at his price

His price is a 1.5 mil cap hit.

With that said, still no way I do this.

He's a UFA at seasons end. He'll be asking 6+.

He'll be asking for rosival type $$ so no way from the rangers standpoint.

no.....campbell is overrated...i watch the sabres games all the time....good hitter sometimes....good skater...can take himself out of position........not overly large so if the puck is down low he can knock people off the puck.....and drury isnt under-performing.....his wings are hossa and moore and he is making them look a lot better than they actually are...with him at center they are a formidable line

This IS an outlandish trade proposal, therefore, no thanks.

Campbell is not nearly good enough of a defenseman to make any Ranger fan want to deal Chris Drury. Not only that, but he's a UFA at season's end, and his trade value isn't exactly at a high right now.

Thinking that you can get Drury for Campbell is hilarious.

I'd rather keep Chris, trade Jagr, and make a run at Marian Hossa in the offseason.

Thanks for the offer though.

I'd do it if Campbell signs long-term with the Rangers for $5 per or less. I'd rather have a #1 solid defenseman than a great second liner center.

Truthfully the way Drury has played this year for us and his being signed through the 2012 season at which time he'll be 36? with a $7 mil cap hit per year over that time--yeah I'd trade him for Campbell--save the cap hit and make up my mind on Campbell later.

Nah...

don't know why Buffalo would trade for a guy they didn't want to sign this season, and as much as I think Drury's underperforming and that he doesn't make people on the ice better, the Rangers are thin at forward and can't afford to lose him at this point.

Not that I'm for this trade (though it'd never happen), but who said Buffalo didn't want to sign Drury? I believe they tried to sign him in the off season but he decided to sign with the NYR.

Did Buffalo offer the same contract terms...

as the Rangers? I thought I recalled the contract offer from the Rangers being a fair amount more than what Buffalo was willing to pay.

Even if the Rangers would consider this, do you really think Drury would waive his no movement clause to go back to Buffalo?

Not to bash Drury but you know some things don't work out and the Drury signing is one that makes me wonder whether we'd have been better off passing on it. If an opportunity arose (such as the above mentioned) to move that cap hit and use the money saved on someone else--at this point in time--Yeah, I'd do it and part of the return here is not necessarily the player (as in Campbell) but the flexibility and the room created by saving the money spent and using it in another way--or we don't have to sign Campbell--we can say sayonara to him too--and make a run at another player--Hossa or whoever. It's waving goodbye to this season but you know if we don't get our act together quick we're not going anywhere anyway. Drury has been a big disappointment.
