Iginla's best friend. Got brought back at request of Iggy. Not gonna get dealt.

If Montreal isn't looking into Tanguay, who still has next season for $5.3M, then they are looking at one of the UFA's like Langkow, Huselius or Hale.

Maybe it was for scouting Pavel Demitra; isn't available? I think the Wild stated that I would be trade...

Im so tired of this BS, its quite ridiculous.

It's a little bit of that, yeah.

What I'm saying is that if a struggling player is on the market, you are more likely to take a chance on him if you think it's a coaching issue.

A team that has the mindset of "Well, Keenan is a kickass coach, and if he can't make this player work, few will be able to" might be less inclined.

Carbonneau is not Keenan's biggest fan (this goes back to the time he played under him in St-Louis) and has said in the past he finds his methods flawed, blunt and quirky.

Tanguay would be nice. Although he's a playmaker, he does have a nice skill set including very good speed, and a good shot... he can score goals. A Koivu, Tanguay, Higgins line would be a very fast line.

But Ryder isn't even close to enough value. If it were a salary dump of such an established player you'd expect at minimum a first pick in return. Other players we could be looking at include faceoff/defensive specialist Stephane Yelle and Lombardi

montreal had a couple guys at the flames game tonight... but to add fuel to the fire, calgary has been following the habs for quite a while now according to francois gagnon.

I know that keenan likes kovalev... but sutter has the final say

New role for Tanguay

LMAO, Kovalev aint going no where. Like tight wad Bob is going to trade MTLs top point getter half way through the seaon. He would be burned at the stake.

I'm not suggesting that he's definitly involved in the talks.... I'm just trying to think of habs players that have played for keenan before... or players that have played for sutter... I'm trying to think of some connections through familiarity. And #27 was the only one I can think of.

Since it seems like the flames are the ones who have been following the habs for a while, I imagine that they instigated the talks

Montreal would have to get more then Demitra for Koivu. Demitra and a D or another C.

Loosing Koivu would make Montreal even weaker down the middle.

Fair enough, but could you imagine trading Kovy at this point in the season. Who do we get from Calgary thats going to replace his points. Huselius or Iginla and Obviously neither will be traded and even less for Kovy.

Lombardi centering the 3rd line would be a dream.

François Gagnon said that not only were there Habs scouts at Calgary games, but Calgary scouts at Habs games as well.

Who knows, Michael Ryder going the other way might be a big plan to make Daniel feel better and come back to the organization.....And maybe in the process send them a couple of prospects like Ryan White and get Mikael Backlund back from them.....I know I'm dreaming....

Huh am i missing something, how would a D help us down the middle and why would Minny trade Demitra for an aging Koivu.

Got me there, but Minny isnt going to trade their only offense. For a Koivu that has a body that has been through a lot. Better.

I'm not sure how much more it would take. The 5 million + in cap savings for Calgary next year might be the biggest asset in this deal. An assessment of a cap motivated deal has to include the players you can sign with the money you save. It's not just Tanguay for Ryder. It's Tanguay for Ryder this year + 5 million next year to re-sign Huselius or Langkow or Phaneuf etc.

To also get a player who can help them this year, maybe even more than Tanguay has because of chemistry or coaching or whatever, notwithstanding Tanguay's superior skillset, might be close enough value from Calgary's POV.
