The Alex Tanguay watch continues in Calgary. The Flames have been shopping Tanguay for months. His $5.3 million salary for this year and next is scaring some people, although if Calgary can sweeten the pot, a Jokinen for Tanguay deal is still believed to have some potential.
Personally, I'd bet good money that Tanguay is still a Flame on the first game of next season.
Tanguay isn't keenan's type player thats the reason that I heard why he's on the block .... no ?
That's what everyone wants to think, but I have yet to see or hear any evidence of this. Tanguay went to Keenan and asked how he could be a better player and since then his role on the team has changed a bit. He's killing penalties and being more responsible in his own end. He has been great the last month and a half. All this talk of him being traded is bs as far as I'm concerned. I'm positive he'll be a flame for the rest of the season.
Tanguay will be a flame for awhile, he is too valuble to this club. He is still under contract and is a career point per game player. At the begining of the 07-08 season he asked coaching staff to become a more complete player. i.e penalty killing, second line checking.
I'm not sure if anyone remembers who scored the winning goal for Colorado's cup victory, yes it was Tanguay. The experience and shear talent he exudes is too hard to trade away. The Flames would have to get something of equal stature for it to become a viable trade, right now there are no players availble to so.
With his 5+ million dollar salary, and 16 goal, 63 point pace he will almost have to be moved to keep huselius and langkow. I relative recently prank called me and said tanguay got traded for lucic and boston's first rounder in 2008. of course this never happened, but what is tanguay's market value? sounds like lecavieler might want out so how about this
All of our 2008 Draft picks
Brent Krahn, and Mathew Keetley
I really hope to see Tanguay stay in Calgary. If anybody should be on their way out as trade bait, it should be Huselius.
I disagree. While the public opinion has changed again in favour of Alex, I am not sold on him. He had some good games around the all-star-break, but IMO he was as invisible as Huselius was for most games in February. He had a great game last night against Dallas, but that shouldn't conceal the fact, that he has been in a lenghty slump and hasn't contirbuted much offensively. While most people blame this on the fact, that Tanguay hasn't played alongside Iginla, they have to keep in mind, that Nolan has been our most consistent producer in February and Huselius looked a lot better alongside Nolan than he did alongside Iginla in the games against Edmonton and San Jose, while Tanguay was almost invisible next to Iginla.
Thus said, I'd advocate to trade Tanguay rather than Huselius, if it comes down to a decision between those two, since Tanguay has the higher trade value and trading away his 5,25 mio. $ would leave us much more flexibility in the off-season.
I'd like to add, that I, however, wouldn't trade Tanguay, if he didn't fetch us a top-notch player or some NHL-ready high-calibre prospects.
All the speculation is Ryder from Montreal but that would give the Flames 3 scoring RW's with none of them showing any proficiency for playing the left side.
I think Philly could make an offer with Gagne out. RJ Umberger straight up??
Also I suspect Daryl is trying to get Jokinen with Tanguay being the main centerpiece of any deal.
I was thinking that too.If Philly was hard up for a top 6 left winger the flames could accommodate them for the right price.I highly doubt that will ever happen though.I think we're done dealing with philly, for this year anyways.
