For those who were clamouring for Marleau

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=12753

The above is from a local San Jose outlet. They should know the player well.

Most important quote:
"Patrick Marleau would have to be in the running for worst player in the National Hockey League this season."

He is in fact nearly last in the NHL in +/-.

Also note that they say his troubles have been long-standing.

Marleau is a great player no matter what people are saying, he is having a terrible year and something, maybe on the outside of the rink, must be going on.

Oh give it a rest....Marleau isn't as good as everybody thinks and he is proving that this season. I hate seeing people say that we need to trade for Marleau because he is so awesome, well.....when was he ever awesome??? He makes a ton of money and he doesn't put points on the board, in the regular season and especially in the playoffs.

I would rather use Smolinski than Marleau....at least Smokes can win a faceoff and is a solid 3rd/4th line player who knows his role.
There is no way I would put Marleau ahead of Plekanec or Koivu on either of the top 2 lines. I am more than happy with the job that Pleks and Koivu have been doing. Koivu needs to step his game up a bit, but he is holding his own and putting up more points than Marleau is.

Patrick Marleau is a great player.

Patrick Marleau is having a bad season.

Patrick Marleau will rebound next year.

Patrick Marleau will still be a San Jose Shark.

Thank you.

But, but, that can't be. According to people on here. Koivu is finish and we should trade him for a bag of pucks because by the end of the season, he won't be worth a half eaten KFC dinner. So Marleau must be finished too.

Players aren't aloud to go through slumps or have off years.

Funny that in trade talks, SJ fans still think he's worth gold.

Anyways, for those that can't read between the lines, this is SARCASM.

If you are offended by the last statement, then it was meant for you.

Well if he's having a bad season, maybe we can get him for super cheap.... it's a risk, but it could still be worth a shot?

His contract won't be cheap with the looming extension.

If Saku got injured against New Jersey, I'd jump on a Marleau offer. Otherwise, San Jose still needs him. He is one of the few guys on their team aside from Nabokov that works hard in the post-season.

Who says he would have had this kind of season in Montreal? I still think he is a great player having a bad season like others have said.

I'd still take him on my team any day of the week. People who say he sucks have short memories...Especially since just last year everyone was saying the same about Kovalev.

He's having the same kind of year as Ryder: a player who shoots 14% for his career, going down to 8% for half a season. The Sharks still outshoot the opposition when Marleau's on the ice. His luck/confidence will balance out.

Patrick Marleau is still a top notch player in this league and IMO he just needs a change to get things going again

so wait, Marleau is a great player haveing a bad year...ok but when Kovalev had the year he had last year, why was everyone calling for him to be traded (or killed), same goes for Koivu and pretty much any player in the city...good to see we have loyal fans

I don't know why Marleau sucks this year, but he can be a very good player. I still wouldn't want him though; $6+ million is way, way too much to risk on a guy that's struggling so badly.

Yes, Koivu is a finish player

Count me in as another person who thinks Marleau is much better than what he is showing right now.

Also, from the games I have seen, Marleau is not anywhere near the worse NHLer this year. In fact, despite struggling to put up points, he was playing ok.

Doesn't mean his performance is acceptable right now but there may never be a better time for a team to acquire him cheaply. Unfortunately, I don't think San Jose is in panic mode and I think they'll be patient with him. They're two points away from second place and will probably hope Marleau will bounce back in the playoffs.

But ultimately, I think he is a player in great need of a change of team.

Marleau isnt great and was never great. Just watch all of his hilights and go ask about him in the SJ forum. Marleau doesnt make the players arround him better.

Way to show you know nothing about Marleau

Marleau is a solid center, bad seasons happen to everybody.
His Six last seasons have been of 20+Goals( 2 of 30+ and 3 of 25+)
Must say,that's pretty bad.

And i dont know why people say he's been bad in PO, they say that when they really have nothing really bad to point out. Alfie was labeled as a bad PO Performer all his career, look what he did last year.
Marleau had a bad PO Performance last year. But he was decent to great in the 3previous PO.

So instead of saying such stupidities as you'd prefer Smokes to Marleau, Keep it Shut cuz you know nothing.

He`s OK. 2 great seasons were preceded by a bunch of OK seasons...nothing special. Watched him lots out here...has always been soft and not a clutch player.

Having said that...not that I wouldn`t like him on the Habs...but not for a small kings ransom.

I didn't want him and still don't. Where would he play? We've already got Saku, Pleks.

And now he's considered by some to be the de facto best player who ever lived

I'm in the camp that feels Marleau is a lot better than shows, he was a beast in 2004 IMHO but ran into a guy named Iginla.

Plekanec does....It's not magic. I'm not talking about turning the players he's with in to super stars. I'm talking about about being the guy that starts plays. Marleau is more the type of player that needs an other player to initiate the play.

Thread should have ended here. Doug Wilson has stated numerous times Marleau will not be traded this year.

And?..how does this make him a bad player?..
There's a ton of players that perform much better paired up with playmakers. Doesnt mean they're not good.
