no he is not tradeable, and pretty much no package the leafs could put together could get him unless it included your 1st round picks for like 8 years, along w/kaberle, antropov, steen, stajan, and ponikarovsky, so no you cannot have downie.

When asked about Downie, Poddock (sp) recently said, "...there's 29 teams who would love to have him on their roster." Loved it, kinda left all the Downie-haters in Ottawa scratching their heads.

I would have to take that trade. At least the 8 1st round picks
'
Downie would be on the first plane out of Philly.

I wonder what Paddock thinks is the one team that wouldn't want him? Probably the Sharks, they don't like anyone who plays with emotion.

Yeah, that would be it, I guess the word "other" should be placed in front of teams.

just curious but what did the leafs trade to get tucker?

i don't think darcy was thought to be as good a player as he turned out to be but they would seem to be very similar.

Traded to Toronto by Tampa Bay with Tampa Bay's 4th round choice (Miguel Delisle) in 2000 Entry Draft for Mike Johnson, Marek Posmyk and Toronto's 5th (Pavel Sedov) and 6th (Aaron Gionet) round choices in 2000 Entry Draft, February 9, 2000.

If...

(note, the hypothetical if...it's like monks of old debating about such things as how many angels can dance on the head of a pin kind of thing. It is impossible for Downie to go to another team. The new city would explode. No city in the world has as much hateability as Philadelphia. If Toronto acquired Downie, the whole province would be engulfed by a large mass of flaming pitch and tar)

...any team acquired Downie, the fan base would not be able to handle it. Only Philadelphia fans can handle the amount fo shear hate that he generates, since they are used to handling large amounts of negativity. Every supposed hockey fan in the world would talk about how Downie has offended and injured or attempted to injure every other player in the league by his illegal hit on McAmmond.

In McAmmond, all hockey players and fans are represented; thus, by his hit on McAmmond, he is guilty of all transgressions. So if he were traded to another team, first of all, each player on that team would hate him for the dirty he hit he gave them each (through McAmmond), and every fan would hate him for injuring each player on his team (again, through the McAmmond hit).

This truly is the wonder of Steve Downie. He has the power to make all fans hate him for one illegal hit, whereas mundane folks like Chirs Simon cannot create in others this feeling of hate, despite the fact that he actually HAS injured every other player from every team.

No other team in hockey, nor its fan base can handle the seeming illogic of it all. However, I am pleased to see that you would like to try to understand the wonder of Steve Downie.

you sir are a God! May the power of Downie flow through your veins. Upon your death you are surely to rise like Downie arose from the ice against the Pens. May the power of Downie compel you.

I know you wrote this with a degree of sarcasm, but the thing is, it is the absolute 100% truth. Only Philly can handle his awesomeness---thus, like Richards, Downie will be a Flyers for life.

Well said, sir, very, very, well said.

If there was a trade to obtain Downie i would imagine it would be along the lines of the trade to aquire Eric Lindros.

I would also do it for Crosby, Malkin and maybe 2 first round picks. Then we could healthy scratch Crosby every night.
