I can't wait for the breakaway challenge either. Here's hoping some of the stars actually put the puck in the net

The only thing I don't like is the new format of the fastest skater. Everything else I'm pretty excited about. Last year everything in the breakaway competitions was so dull, Crosby basically came in and took a wrist shot 4 times. The breakaway challenge should let us see some incredible moves.

Irrelevant, I usually root for Canada at the Olympics. I'm actually trying to remember who I was rooting for in the early round in Torino--I just remember rooting for Niitty in the Finals. So the bottom line is, I have indeed gotten this far in my life without rooting for Gomez, but tomorrow may change all that--I wonder who they'll have centering who.

AO stole the show. As I said in the other thread, the NHL is missing the boat with this kid, but hopefully someone in their marketing department was watching tonight.

Some of them had the right idea. I liked what they brought to the table when they actually tried someone awesome. Ovechkin and Gaborik seemed to be the only guys who got the idea that the fans wanted to see something completely insane. Kovalchuk trying one from his knees...was cool, and St. Louis was going to try something crazy but Nabokov screwed him over. They needed to make it easier to score.

Well, I can honestly say I was rooting for Finland, and I wanted Latvia to beat the USA, but I can think of a lot worse things in hockey and rooting for Scott Gomez.

You might feel differently if you lived less than three miles away from CAA during his tenure there.

Other then Ovechkin trying to get fancy the most entertaining part of the night was Tim Thomas Break dancing in the crease after Phaneuf scored on him in the elimination shootout.

A Canadian singer did their anthem. She was alright, but not real emotional. The Atlanta Boys choir did the US...very nice.

12 sec in, the West scores on DP...while he's trying to talk to the announcers. He was just starting to say how his hip was fine, and then they score. He then says, "Actually, my hip is killin' me...that's what happened there"! Pretty funny.

Staal makes it 1-1!
